Polymeric conductor donor and transfer method
View Patent ↗The present invention relates to a donor laminate for transfer of a conductive layer comprising at least one electronically conductive polymer on to a receiver, wherein the receiver is a component of a device. The present invention also relates to methods pertinent to such transfers.
1. A donor laminate for transfer of a conductive layer comprising a substrate having thereon in order a silicone layer and a conductive layer comprising at least one electronically conductive polymer and a polyanion, in contact with said silicone layer, wherein the silicone layer has a surface energy of <30 mN/m, and the conductive layer is coated on the silicone layer from an aqueous coating composition comprising a dispersible combination of the electronically conductive polymer and polyanion and has a surface electrical resistance of less than 10000 ohm/square.
2. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer is in a pattern.
3. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer comprises polyethylene dioxythiophene.
4. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer comprises polystyrene sulfonate.
5. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said substrate comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of cellulose ester, polyester and polyolefin polymers.
6. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said silicone layer comprises a cross-linked silicone.
7. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer has a peel force of less than 100 grams per inch for separation from said release layer at room temperature.
8. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer has a peel force of less than 50 grams per inch for separation from said release layer at room temperature.
9. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said silicone layer is coated from silicone modified by a functionality selected from the group consisting of epoxy, acrylate, and ester.
10. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said laminate further comprises an adhesive layer on the side of the conductive layer opposite to the substrate.

The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer is a transparent conductive layer comprising an electronically conductive polymer comprising polythiophene present in a cationic form with a polyanion, wherein said conductive layer has an FOM less than or equal to 100 wherein FOM is defined as the slope of the plot of ln (1/T) versus [1/SER]: and wherein
T=visual light transmission
SER=surface electrical resistance in ohm per square
FOM=figure of merit, and
wherein the SER has a value of less than or equal to 1000 ohm per square.
12. The laminate of claim 11 wherein said conductive layer has a visual light transmission of greater than 90%.
13. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer is coated utilizing a conductivity enhancing agent.
14. The laminate of claim 11 wherein the figure of merit is less than or equal to 40.
15. The laminate of claim 1 wherein said conductive layer has a peel force of less than 100 grams per inch for separation from said substrate at 300° C.
16. The laminate of claim 11 wherein said conductive layer has a peel force of less than 50 grams per inch for separation from said substrate.
17. The laminate of claim 11 wherein said laminate further comprises an adhesive layer on the side of the conductive layer opposite to the substrate.
