Abstract

A method and system are disclosed for acquiring and transforming existing content (e.g., Hyper Text Markup Language HTML content) for display and execution on multiple platforms and architectures. In one embodiment, capture templates are created to harvest content from disparate content sources on multiple platforms. Data is extracted from the content from the disparate content sources using the created capture templates that drives extracting process. A standardized data stream is generated from the extracted data. The standardized data stream is provided for display on one or more different type of platforms.

Claims (30)

1. A method for generating content comprising:

identifying a target platform for combined television broadcast content based on a request for content communicated from the target platform;

locating and harvesting the requested content to obtain a platform-neutral version of the requested content and combining the platform-neutral version of the requested content with television broadcast content to produce the combined television broadcast content; and

delivering the combined television broadcast content via a television program distribution network to the target platform for display to a viewer, wherein:

the combined television broadcast content for the target platform is produced according to:

meta-data information about design objects and properties of the combined television broadcast content stored in a semantic network based data store.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the requested content includes Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) content, Extensible Markup Language (XML) content, JavaScript content, Java content, custom code content, or media content.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the requested content comprises Internet based content; and further comprising

converting and delivering the Internet based content for interactive services provided to the target platform.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the converting and delivering of the Internet based content includes using templates to convert and deliver the internet based content.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

delivering the combined television broadcast content using an external cache to optimize delivery of the combined television broadcast content.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein delivering the combined television broadcast content includes dynamically loading the requested content in the cache to combine with the television broadcast content.

7. A data processing system, comprising a processing unit and a computer-readable repository accessible by the processing unit,

the repository comprising a first semantic network based data store to store meta-data relating to design objects and properties of multiple target platforms for combined television broadcast content, and to provide specific meta-data relating to design objects and properties for delivery of the combined television broadcast content to a specific platform, and

the processing unit configured to produce the combined television broadcast content by combining a platform-neutral version of viewer-requested content with television broadcast content and to deliver the combined television broadcast content via a television program distribution network to the specific platform for display to viewers,

wherein the combined television broadcast content is produced according to the meta-data stored in the semantic network based data store.

8. The data processing system of claim 7 , wherein the meta-data is used to capture, version, catalogue, index, or query information.

9. The data processing system of claim 7 , wherein the repository further comprises:

a second data store to store screen designs, templates, business logic, or conversion tables for delivering the combined television broadcast content to the specific platform.

10. A method comprising:

modifying content received at a server and targeted for a specific platform to create interactive services related to the content for the specific platform based on

(1) a meta-model configured to enable reuse of complete architectures, interface models, and personalization logic from existing designs, and

(2) objects and properties of the content for the specific platform stored in a semantic network based data store,

combining the content so modified with television broadcast content to produce combined television broadcast content for distribution to the specific platform, and

delivering the combined television broadcast content via a television program distribution network to the specific platform for display to a viewer.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

providing projections of design information for a specific configuration.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

using an advanced object oriented inheritance and semantic network taxonomy process to provide an abstraction of a service.
