Abstract

A dressing mechanism comprising a first section, a second section, and a third section. The first section and the third section each may each include one side having an adhesive layer. An overlaying, non-adhesive barrier layer may be located between a portion of the adhesive layer and a first or third section. At least one of the first or third sections may further include a plurality of hook or loop members which are arranged to be fastened to corresponding hook or loop members of a hook and loop fastener.

Claims (20)

1. A dressing mechanism comprising:

a first section, a second section, and a third section;

the first and third sections each including a proximal end and a distal end;

the proximal end of the first section being coupled to the second section and the second section being coupled to the proximal end of the third section;

the second section comprising an elastic material;

the first section and the third section each having a first side and a second side;

at least one adhesive layer, said at least one adhesive layer having a first adhesive side and a second adhesive side;

said first adhesive side being coupled to said second side of at least one of said first section and said third section;

said at least one adhesive layer including a distal end and a proximal end;

a barrier layer, said barrier layer overlaying at least a portion of said first adhesive side, said at least a portion of said first adhesive side located proximate said proximal end of said at least one adhesive layer.

2. The dressing mechanism of claim 1 wherein said second section includes a layer composed of a hydrophilic material.

3. The dressing mechanism of claim 1 wherein a predetermined portion of the first side of at least one of said first section and said third section includes an adhesive thereon.

4. The dressing mechanism of claim 1 wherein the second section includes a plurality of openings.

5. The dressing mechanism of claim 4 wherein the openings are of a predetermined size.

6. The dressing mechanism of claim 4 wherein the openings are of a predetermined shape.

7. The dressing mechanism of claim 6 wherein the openings of predetermined shape are spatially organized in a predetermined manner respective to each other.

8. The dressing mechanism of claim 1 wherein the first section and the third section are laminated materials comprising a first layer, a second intermediate layer, and a third layer; the third layer including the first side.

9. The dressing mechanism of claim 8 wherein the second section includes a first margin and a second margin; the first section includes a first channel located between the first layer and the third layer of the first section for receiving the first margin; and the third section includes a second channel located between the first layer and the third layer of the third section for receiving the second margin; the second intermediate layer comprising an adhesive material; the first margin and the second margin respectively including at least one opening; the first margin engaging the second intermediate layer in the first channel and the adhesive material extending through the opening of the first margin; and the second margin engaging the second intermediate layer in the second channel and the adhesive material extending through the opening of the second margin.

10. The dressing mechanism of claim 9 wherein the third layer of the first section and the third layer of the third section comprise an inelastic material.

11. The dressing mechanism of claim 10 wherein the inelastic material is a polyester.
