Methods and systems for generating a demand plan for a configurable product

1. A method of generating a demand plan for a configurable product in a managed supply chain using a computer, wherein the configurable product comprises an assembled component, the method comprising:

providing a processor device in the computer;

accessing a characteristic value combination in a primary profile planning table for the configurable product using the processor device, wherein the characteristic value combination describes geographical aspects, customer aspects, or product aspects of materials distributed in the supply chain;

accessing a characteristic value combination in a secondary profile planning table using the processor device for an assembled component of the configurable product including a header characteristic, the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table being assigned a characteristic value combination that identifies the sequence in which the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table will be processed by the processor device;

processing the at least one of the characteristic value combinations in the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table using the processor device to generate transactional data as the demand plan taking into account the assembled component; and

controlling the supply of the configurable product in accordance with the demand plan.

2. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

retrieving at least one of the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table from a data storage element.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the configurable product is identified by data relating to the assembled component in the header characteristic, and at least one of the configurable product and the assembled component are defined by a plurality of characteristics describing properties of the configurable product and the assembled component, respectively, wherein each characteristic is assigned a value, and the data includes characteristic value combinations which are a variable number of uniquely specified characteristic values.

4. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

aggregating the data in the primary and secondary profile planning tables.

5. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

disaggregating the data in the primary and secondary profile planning tables to obtain a bill of materials.

6. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

assigning a value to the primary and the secondary profile planning table indicating an order in which the processing is to be carried out.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the processing is carried out in real time.

8. A computer system for generating a demand plan for a configurable product in a managed supply chain, wherein the configurable product comprises an assembled component, the system comprising:

a processor device arranged to receive and process data relating to the configurable product,

wherein the processor is arranged to access master data in a primary profile planning table for the configurable product,

wherein the table includes data relating to the configurable product,

wherein the processor device is further arranged to access master data in a secondary profile planning table for an assembled component of the configurable product including a header characteristic, the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table being assigned a characteristic value combination that identifies a sequence in which the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table will be processed by the processor device,

wherein the processor device is further arranged to process the data in the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table to generate transactional data as the demand plan taking into account the assembled component, wherein the demand plan is used to control the supply of the configurable product in accordance with the demand plan.

9. A generating apparatus for generating a demand plan for a configurable product in a managed supply chain, wherein the configurable product comprises an assembled component, wherein the generating apparatus comprises a storage medium having recorded therein processor readable code processable to generate a demand plan for a configurable product in a managed supply chain, a processor executing the processor readable code to perform a method of generating a demand plan, the method comprising:

accessing master data in a primary profile planning table for the configurable product, wherein the table includes data relating to the configurable product;

accessing master data in a secondary profile planning table for an assembled component of the configurable product including a header characteristic, the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table being assigned a characteristic value combination that identifies the sequence in which the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table will be processed by the processor device; and

processing the data in the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table to generate transactional data as the demand plan taking into account the assembled component, wherein the demand plan is used to control the supply of the configurable product in the supply chain in accordance with the demand plan.

10. A program storage device readable by a provided processor device, said program storage device embodying a program of instructions executable by the processor to perform a method for generating a demand plan for a configurable product in a managed supply chain, wherein the configurable product comprises an assembled component, the method comprising:

accessing master data in a primary profile planning table for the configurable product, wherein the table includes data relating to the configurable product;

accessing master data in a secondary profile planning table for an assembled component of the configurable product including a header characteristic, the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table being assigned a characteristic value combination that identifies the sequence in which the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table will be processed by the processor device;

processing the data in the primary profile planning table and the secondary profile planning table to generate transactional data as the demand plan taking into account the assembled component; and

controlling the supply of the configurable product in the supply chain in accordance with the demand plan.
