Intravascular filter and method
View Patent ↗A filter disposed at the distal end of an elongate guidewire. Catheters are provided for delivering the filter to, and retrieving the filter from, a treatment site. The catheters can be over-the-wire or single operator exchange. The catheters include a housing for receiving the filter therein. The housing has an atraumatic distal end.
1. An intravascular filter comprising:
a filter support structure having an open state and a closed state;
a filter media disposed on the filter support structure, the media comprising a plurality of circular apertures formed through the filter media, each of the apertures having a shape having a circumferential edge that is etched to include a rounded shoulder that defines an inlet of the aperture;
wherein blood flowing through the filter experiences a shear force when flowing through the apertures; and
wherein the shape of the apertures limits the shear force to below the shear force that causes significant formation of clots in the blood.
2. The intravascular filter of claim 1 , wherein each of the apertures extends from an inside surface to an outside surface of the media and the inlet defines the opening into the aperture from the inside of the media.
3. The intravascular filter of claim 1 , wherein the apertures have a smooth shoulder.
4. The intravascular filter of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the media is coated with a thrombus resistant coating.
5. The intravascular filter of claim 4 , wherein the thrombus resistant coating comprises Heparin.
6. An intravascular filter comprising:
a filter support structure having an open state and a closed state;
a filter media disposed on the filter support structure, the media comprising a plurality of circular apertures extending through the filter media, each of the apertures including a circumferential edge, wherein the circumferential edge is chemically etched to include a rounded shoulder that defines an inlet of the aperture;
wherein blood flowing through the filter experiences a shear force when flowing through the apertures; and
wherein the shape of the rounded shoulder of the apertures limits the shear force to below the shear force that causes significant formation of clots in the blood.
7. The intravascular filter of claim 6 , wherein each of the apertures extends from an inside surface to an outside surface of the media and the inlet defines the opening into the aperture from the inside of the media.
8. The intravascular filter of claim 6 , wherein at least a portion of the media is coated with a thrombus resistant coating.
9. The intravascular filter of claim 8 , wherein the thrombus resistant coating comprises Heparin.
