at least one processor operatively coupled to the scanning device which, upon the detection of the at least one characteristic by the scanning device, compares the at least one characteristic to the information stored on the at least one computer-readable medium, and upon a successful comparison, selects which of the plurality of densification devices to which the recyclable container should be conveyed.

2. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the information stored on the at least one computer-readable medium includes information on a material from which the recyclable container is formed, and wherein the selection of a densification device is based at least in part on the information on the material.

3. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the information stored on the at least one computer-readable medium includes information on a distributor of the recyclable container, and wherein the selection of a densification device is based at least in part on the information on the distributor.

4. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein one of the plurality of densification devices is a glass crushing device which densifies glass containers, and wherein the assembly further comprises an airtight passageway between the glass crushing device and the storage bin.

5. The assembly of claim 4 , wherein the airtight passageway comprises a membrane which is fixedly mounted to the glass crushing device and the storage bin.

6. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein one of the plurality of densification devices is a glass crushing device which densifies glass containers, wherein the glass crushing device comprises at least one member each having a flat face.

7. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a separate motor which drives each densification device, wherein each motor is configured to start at a time after the selection of the device corresponding to the motor by the at least one processor, and wherein each motor is configured to stop after the device corresponding to the motor densifies a recyclable container.

8. An assembly for densification of recyclable containers, comprising:

an intake port configured for receiving a recyclable container for processing;

a conveyor operatively connected to the intake port and configured to transport a recyclable container received at the intake port;

a plurality of densification devices configured to receive a recyclable container transported by the conveyor and to densify the recyclable container into a densified material;

at least one computer-readable medium on which is stored information descriptive of at least one recyclable container;

a scanning device configured to examine a recyclable container transported by the conveyor and to determine at least one characteristic of the recyclable container;

at least one processor operatively coupled to the scanning device which, upon the determination of the at least one characteristic of the recyclable container by the scanning device, compares the at least one characteristic with the information stored on the at least one computer-readable medium, and upon a successful comparison, selects which of the plurality of densification devices to which the recyclable container should be conveyed; and

at least one storage bin that receives densified material from the at least one densification device;

wherein one of the plurality of densification devices is a glass crushing device which densifies glass containers, and wherein the assembly further comprises an airtight passageway between the glass crushing device and the storage bin.

9. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the airtight passageway comprises a membrane which is fixedly mounted to the glass crushing device and the storage bin.

10. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein:

the scanning device comprises a bar code reader, the at least one characteristic includes a bar code which is printed on the recyclable container, and the bar code reader is operable to determine the at least one characteristic within a scan area;

the scanning device further comprises a belt which is arranged to rotate the recyclable container at a rotation speed so that the bar code is presented to the scanning device within the scan area; and

the assembly further comprises a size detection device, operatively coupled to the scanning device, which determines whether the recyclable container exceeds a predetermined size, and wherein the rotation speed is defined at least in part by whether the size detection device determines whether the recyclable container exceeds the predetermined size.

11. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the scanning device includes a component configured to perform mass spectrometry, and wherein the at least one characteristic includes a material from which the recyclable container is formed.

12. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the information stored on the at least one computer-readable medium includes information on a material from which the recyclable container is formed, and wherein the selection of a densification device is based at least in part on the information on the material.

13. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein one of the plurality of densification devices is a glass crushing device which densifies glass containers, wherein the glass crushing device comprises at least one member each having a flat face.

14. An assembly for densification of recyclable containers, comprising:

an intake port configured for receiving a recyclable container for processing;

a conveyor operatively connected to the intake port and configured to transport a recyclable container received at the intake port;

a plurality of densification devices each configured to receive a recyclable container transported by the conveyor and to densify the recyclable container into a densified material;
