Abstract

A soybean cultivar designated 01JR123480 with high yield potential and tolerance to Roundup™ herbicide, further including the plants and seeds of the cultivar 01JR123480, methods for producing a soybean plant by crossing the cultivar 01JR123480 with itself or another soybean plant. The invention also relates to soybean cultivar 01JR123480 further comprising one or more single gene traits, and to methods of producing a soybean having such traits by introgression, transformation or mutagenesis. The invention also includes using the soybean cultivar 01JR123480 to produce other soybean cultivars, breeding lines, and progeny.

Claims (23)

1. Seed of soybean cultivar designated 01JR123480 representative seed of said soybean cultivar having been deposited under ATCC Accession No: PTA-7616.

2. A soybean plant, or a part thereof, produced by growing the seed of claim 1 .

3. Pollen of the plant of claim 2 .

4. An ovule of the plant of claim 2 .

5. A soybean plant, or a part thereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of the plant according to claim 2 .

6. Seeds of the plant of claim 5 , wherein plants produced by growing said seeds have all the physiological and morphological characteristics of the plants produced by growing seeds deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-7616.

7. A soybean plant produced from the soybean plant according to claim 2 by transformation with a transgene that confers upon said soybean plant tolerance to a herbicide.

8. The soybean plant according to claim 7 , wherein said herbicide is glyphosate, glufosinate, a sulfonylurea or an imidazolinone herbicide, or a protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitor.

9. A soybean plant produced from the soybean plant according to claim 2 by transformation with a transgene that confers upon said soybean plant insect resistance, disease resistance, nematode resistance or virus resistance.

10. The soybean plant according to claim 9 , wherein said transgene encodes VIP3.

11. A soybean plant produced from the soybean plant according to claim 2 by transformation with a transgene, wherein said transgene expresses thioredoxin and/or thioredoxin reductase.

12. A tissue culture of regenerable cells of the soybean plant according to claim 2 .

13. The tissue culture according to claim 12 , wherein the cells of said tissue culture are from a leaf, pollen, an embryo, a cotyledon, a hypocotyl, meristematic cells, a root, a root tip, an anther, a flower, a seed, a stem or a pod.

14. A soybean plant generated from the tissue culture of claim 12 .

15. A soybean plant generated from the tissue culture of claim 12 , wherein the regenerated plant is capable of expressing all of the morphological and physiological characteristics of soybean cultivar 01JR123480, representative seed of said soybean cultivar 01JR123480 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-7616.

16. A method for producing a soybean seed comprising crossing a first parent soybean plant with a second parent soybean plant and harvesting the resultant first generation soybean seed, wherein said first or second parent soybean plant is a soybean plant according to claim 2 or a soybean plant having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of a plant according to claim 2 .

17. A method for producing a 01JR123480-derived soybean plant, comprising:

a) crossing inbred soybean line 01JR123480, representative seed of said soybean cultivar 01JR123480 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No PTA-7616, with a second soybean plant to yield progeny soybean seed; and

b) growing said progeny to yield said 01JR123480-derived soybean plant.

18. A tissue culture of regenerable cells of the soybean plant according to claim 5 .

19. The tissue culture according to claim 18 , wherein the cells of said tissue culture are from a leaf, pollen, an embryo, a cotyledon, a hypocotyl, meristematic cells, a root, a root tip, an anther, a flower, a seed, a stem or a pod.

20. A soybean plant generated from the tissue culture of claim 18 .

21. A soybean plant generated from the tissue culture of claim 18 , wherein the regenerated plant is capable of expressing all of the morphological and physiological characteristics of soybean cultivar 01JR123480, representative seed of said soybean cultivar 01JR123480 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-7616.
