The present invention relates to an end cap for capping an end of an extrusion of a printhead assembly. The extrusion defines a plurality of respective channels for each carrying a medium such as air or ink and each channel has an opening at the end. The end cap comprises a body and a plurality of protrusions which extend from the body. The protrusions are located so as to each correspond with a respective channel opening. During capping, the body is located so that each protrusion is inserted into a corresponding channel opening to thereby plug each channel and cap the end of the extrusion. A print head assembly comprising an extrusion which is capped at an end with the end cap is also provided.
1. An end cap for capping an end of an extrusion of a printhead assembly, the extrusion defining a plurality of respective channels for each carrying a medium, each channel having an opening at the end, the end cap comprising:
a body; and
a plurality of protrusions which extend from the body and are located so as to each correspond with a respective channel opening;
wherein, during capping, the body is located so that each protrusion is inserted into a corresponding channel opening to thereby plug each channel and cap the end of the extrusion.
2. An end cap according to claim 1 , wherein the body comprises:
first and second portions which are foldable with respect to each other; and
a fastener for fastening free ends of the portions together during capping so that the extrusion is located between the first and second portions.
3. An end cap according to claim 2 , wherein the first and second portions are hingedly connected to a spine from which the protrusions extend.
4. An end cap according to claim 3 , wherein the body is integrally formed from plastics material.
5. An end cap according to claim 2 , wherein the fastener comprises a pair of snap-fit fasteners each located on opposing sides of the body.
6. An end cap according to claim 1 , wherein the body further comprises a plurality of body apertures which are located, after capping, in register with respective ones of a plurality of channel apertures towards the end of the extrusion.
7. An end cap according to claim 6 , wherein the body comprises a plurality of connectors extending from the body, each connector being co-incident with a corresponding body aperture and for mating with a respective delivery hose.
8. A print head assembly comprising an extrusion which is capped at an end with the end cap of claim 1 .
