Abstract

A method of assembling an inkjet printhead is provided comprising providing an elongate support structure and positioning carrier units carrying printhead segments on the support structure. The support structure has a base, two sidewalls extending from the base and ink supply channels defined between the base and sidewalls. The sidewalls and channels define a slot extending along the support structure such that the channels are in fluid communication with the slot. One carrier unit is positioned in the slot so that its printhead segment is placed in fluid communication with the channels. The first carrier unit is then secured within the slot. A subsequent carrier unit(s) is positioned in the slot so that its printhead segment is placed in fluid communication with the channels. The position of the subsequent carrier unit(s) is then adjusted to align the respective printhead segments. The subsequent carrier unit(s) is then secured within the slot.

Claims (11)

1. A method of assembling an inkjet printhead, the method comprising the steps of:

providing an elongate support structure having a base, two sidewalls extending from the base and a plurality of ink supply channels defined between the base and sidewalls, the sidewalls and ink supply channels defining a slot which extends along the support structure such that the ink supply channels are in fluid communication with the slot;

positioning a carrier unit in the slot so that an inkjet printhead segment carried by the carrier unit is placed in fluid communication with the ink supply channels;

securing the first carrier unit within the slot;

positioning at least one subsequent carrier unit in the slot so that an inkjet printhead segment carried by the, or each, subsequent carrier unit is placed in fluid communication with the ink supply channels;

adjusting the position of the, or each, subsequent carrier unit to align the inkjet printhead segments of the carrier units; and

securing the, or each, subsequent carrier unit within the slot.

2. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the inkjet printhead segments are tested for correct operation before their respective carrier units are positioned in the slot of the support structure.

3. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the adjusting step includes utilizing one or more alignment marks on the respective inkjet printhead segments.

4. A method according to claim 1 , further comprising the steps of applying a slow-setting glue to each of carrier units before the respective positioning steps,

wherein the adjusting step includes aligning the respective inkjet printhead segments before the setting of the glue and the securing steps include utilizing the setting of the glue to secure the carrier units.
