Abstract

A spreader assembly for spreading a material and for mounting to a bed of a truck is disclosed. The assembly includes a hopper and a frame having an upper rail for supporting the hopper in the bed of the truck. The frame includes a pair of front and rear posts extending downwardly from the upper rail and an upper rail extending in a cantilevered fashion from the rear posts to support the outlet spout outside the bed of the truck. A quick-release connector releasably engages the frame for preventing longitudinal movement within the bed of the truck. A spinner is rotatably attached and is moveable between an operating position and a storage position. The hopper includes a lower portion having a bottom with a first slanted portion having a first slope and a second slanted portion having a second slope with the first slope being different than the second slope.

Claims (13)

1. A spreader assembly for spreading material, said assembly comprising: a hopper for holding a material and having an outlet spout with an opening for discharging material therefrom; an auger extending toward said opening for conveying material toward said outlet spout; a flow facilitator coupled to said hopper and positioned within said hopper adjacent said auger for facilitating flow of material to said auger; said flow facilitator is further defined as a plate; and a vibrator operatively connected to said flow facilitator for vibrating said flow facilitator to prevent cavitation of the material adjacent said auger; a frame formed of a thermoplastic material engaging said hopper for supporting said hopper in a bed of a truck; and a spinner positioned adjacent said opening for receiving material and for throwing material over a large distribution area.

2. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said hopper is formed of a thermoplastic material.

3. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 2 wherein said thermoplastic hopper is formed by rotational molding.

4. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said frame further comprises a pair of front posts and a pair of rear posts extending downwardly therefrom for engaging the bed of the truck.

5. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said vibrator is mounted outside of said hopper.

6. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said plate has first and second sides forming an apex with said sides extending outwardly at an angle from said apex.

7. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said plate is generally V-shaped.

8. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a quick-release connector releasably engaging said frame for preventing longitudinal movement thereof.

9. A spreader assembly for spreading material, said assembly comprising: a hopper for holding a material and having an outlet spout with an opening for discharging material therefrom; an auger extending toward said opening for conveying material toward said outlet spout; a flow facilitator coupled to said hopper and positioned within said hopper adjacent said auger for facilitating flow of material to said auger; said flow facilitator is further defined as a plate; and a vibrator operatively connected to said flow facilitator for vibrating said flow facilitator to prevent cavitation of the material adjacent said auger; said plate is generally V- shaped, and a spinner positioned adjacent said opening for receiving material and for throwing material over a large distribution area.

10. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 9 wherein said hopper is formed of a thermoplastic material.

11. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 10 wherein said thermoplastic hopper is formed by rotational molding.

12. the spreader assembly as set forth in claim 9 wherein said vibrator is mounted outside of said hopper.

13. The spreader assembly as set forth in claim 9 wherein said plate has first and second sides forming an apex with said sides extending outwardly at an angle from said apex.
