Abstract

A spectacle lens is disclosed. The disclosed lens provides a vision correcting area for the correction of a wearer's refractive error. The viewing correction area provides correction for non-conventional refractive error to provide at least a part of the wearer's vision correction. The lens has a prescription based on a wave front analysis of the wearer's eye and the lens can further be modified to fit within an eyeglass frame.

Claims (21)

1. An optical measuring system for quantifying a refractive error of a human eye comprising:

a means for altering a path of light; and

a wave-front analyzer capable of quantifying a refractive error of a human eye,

wherein quantifying the refractive error comprises receiving non-passive input from the human, and wherein the means for altering the path of light comprises an adaptive optic modified as the human provides information.

2. The optical measuring system of claim 1 wherein the refractive error of the human eye is quantified by a subjective refraction of the patient's eye.

3. The optical measuring system of claim 1 wherein the refractive error comprises at least one refractive error other than myopia, hyperopia, or prespbyopia.

4. The optical measuring system of claim 3 wherein the refractive error is caused by the human eye.

5. The optical measuring system of claim 1 wherein the adaptive optic is transmissive.

6. The optical measuring system of claim 1 wherein the wave-front analyzer comprises a reflective adaptive optic.

7. A method for determining refractive error of an eye of a person, comprising:

using a wave-front analyzer to measure a first refractive error of the person's eye, the first refractive error comprising at least one refractive error other than myopia, hyperopia, or prespbyopia;

generating a first optical power based at least in part on the first refractive error;

receiving a first non-passive conscious input from the person sensing the first optical power; and

adjusting the first optical power based at least in part upon the first non-passive conscious input, to generate a second optical power.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

receiving a second non-passive conscious input from the person sensing the second optical power; and adjusting the second optical power based at least in part upon the second non-passive conscious input, to generate a third optical power.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the first and second optical powers are generated at least in part by an electro-active material.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the first and second optical powers are generated in the line of sight between the person and the wavefront analyzer.

11. The method of claim 7 , further comprising: generating a prescription based upon the second optical power.

12. The optical measuring system of claim 7 , wherein the first optical power is adjusted by an adaptive optic and the adaptive optic is transmissive.

13. The optical measuring system of claim 7 , wherein the wave-front analyzer comprises a reflective adaptive optic.
