Implantable material having patterned surface of raised elements and photochemically altered elements and method of making same
View Patent ↗Implantable materials having defined patterns of affinity regions for binding endothelial cells and providing for directed endothelial cell migration across the surface of the material. The affinity regions include photochemically altered regions of a material surface and physical members patterned on the material surface that exhibit a greater affinity for endothelial cell binding and migration than the remaining regions of the material surface.
1. An implantable, biocompatible material, comprising a vacuum deposited surface comprising a distribution of vacuum deposited elevated geometric features, the elevated geometric features comprising circular or square shapes, wherein the elevated geometric features have a thickness between about 0.1 μm and about 3 μm.
2. The implantable biocompatible material of claim 1 , wherein the elevated geometric features have a diameter or width between about 0.1 μm and 75 μm.
3. The implantable, biocompatible material of claim 2 , wherein the elevated geometric features have an oxidized surface.
4. The implantable, biocompatible material of claim 1 , wherein the elevated geometric features have a diameter or width between about 3 μm and about 20 μm.
5. The implantable, biocompatible material of claim 1 , wherein adjacent elevated geometric features have a gap between them of adjacent about 10 μm and about 75 μm.
6. The implantable, biocompatible material of claim 1 , wherein the elevated geometric features comprise a titanium alloy.
7. The implantable, biocompatible material of claim 1 , wherein the geometric features further comprise a rectangular shape.
8. The implantable, biocompatible material of claim 1 , wherein the geometric features further include a shape selected from the group consisting of squares, rectangles, triangles, parallel lines, straight lines, curvilinear lines, intersecting lines, and any combination thereof.
