Printhead chip having low aspect ratio ink supply channels
View Patent ↗A pagewidth inkjet printhead is provided. The printhead comprises (a) a plurality of nozzles formed on a frontside of a substrate, each nozzle having a respective nozzle inlet; and (b) a plurality of ink supply channels. Each ink supply channel is configured for supplying ink from a backside of the substrate to a corresponding group of nozzle inlets. Further, each ink supply channel has an aspect ratio of less than 4:1, the aspect ratio being defined by the ratio of the channel depth to the channel width. A low aspect ratio allows facile backside etching of the ink supply channels.
1. A pagewidth inkjet printhead assembly comprising:
a printhead comprising:
a plurality of nozzles formed on a frontside of a monolithic wafer substrate, each nozzle having a respective nozzle inlet extending partially through the monolithic wafer substrate; and
a plurality of ink supply channels extending longitudinally along a backside surface of the substrate, each ink supply channel being deep enough to meet the nozzle inlets such that ink fed to the monolithic substrate is supplied to the nozzles on the frontside,
a molded ink manifold bonded to the backside of the printhead by an adhesive film sandwiched between the printhead and the ink manifold, the ink manifold having a plurality of outlets, each outlet being aligned with an ink supply channel,
wherein a plurality of openings are defined in the adhesive film, each opening being positioned for allowing ink to flow from one of said outlets to one of said ink supply channels.
2. The printhead assembly of claim 1 , wherein each outlet and each opening is positioned over a transverse bridge in one of said ink supply channels, such that ink is supplied from the ink manifold to two channel sections on either side of the transverse bridge.
3. A printer comprising the printhead assembly according to claim 1 .
