Abstract

A first device has a display that is able to show information. The information is to be exchanged with a second device. The information is cleared from the display following receipt of an indication from the second device that the information has been successfully inputted at the second device.

Claims (36)

1. A system comprising:

a first device including at least:

a display to show a confidential value; and

a first wireless communication interface; and

a second device including at least:

an input component; and

a second wireless communication interface to transmit over a wireless communication link to said first device a message indicating that input expected to be identical to said confidential value but not yet verified as identical to said confidential value has been inputted at said second device,

wherein, where at least a predefined period of time has elapsed since said confidential value was first shown on said display, said first device is to clear said confidential value from said display; and

wherein, where said predefined period of time has not yet elapsed and said input has not yet been verified as identical to said confidential value, said first device is to clear said confidential value from said display in response to receiving said message via said first wireless communication interface.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein said first device is to show a non-confidential value on said display once said first device has cleared said confidential value from said display.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein said non-confidential value is a random value.

4. A first device comprising:

a display to show a confidential value;

a wireless communication interface;

a processor; and

a memory to store executable code which, when executed by said processor:

causes said confidential value to be cleared from said display where at least a predefined period of time has elapsed since said confidential value was first shown on said display, and

where said predefined period of time has not yet elapsed, causes said confidential value to be cleared from said display in response to receiving from a second device via said wireless communication interface a message indicating that input expected to be identical to said confidential value but not yet verified as identical to said confidential value has been inputted at said second device.

5. The first device of claim 4 , wherein said code, when executed by said processor, also causes a non-confidential value to be shown on said display once said confidential value has been cleared from said display.

6. The first device of claim 5 , wherein said non-confidential value is a random value.

7. A method comprising:

showing a confidential value on a display of a first device in order to enable said confidential value to be exchanged with a second device;

where at least a predefined period of time has elapsed since said confidential value was first shown on said display, clearing said confidential value from said display; and

where said predefined period of time has not yet elapsed, clearing said confidential value from said display in response to receiving over a wireless communication link from said second device a message indicating that input expected to be identical to said confidential value but not yet verified as identical to said confidential value has been inputted at said second device.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

showing a non-confidential value on said display once said confidential value is cleared from said display.

9. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

showing a random value on said display once said confidential value is cleared from said display,

wherein said random value is different from said confidential value.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein said first device comprises a wireless smart card reader and said second device comprises a mobile device.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein said first device comprises a wireless smart card reader and said second device comprises a mobile device.

12. The first device of claim 4 , wherein said first device comprises a wireless smart card reader, said wireless smart card reader being arranged to communicate with said second device comprising a mobile device.

13. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

participating in a process in which said first device generates a first key and said second device generates a second key that is identical to said first key if said input is identical to said confidential value,

wherein said first key is stronger than said confidential value and said second key is stronger than said confidential value.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein transmission of said message by said second device and reception of said message by said first device initiates a process in which said first device generates a first key and said second device generates a second key that is identical to said first key if said input is identical to said confidential value, wherein said first key is stronger than said confidential value and said second key is stronger than said confidential value.
