Abstract

An inkjet printhead having minimal thermal crosstalk is provided. The printhead comprises a substrate having an ink ejection side and an opposite ink supply side. The ink ejection side supports an array of ink ejection nozzles, with each ink ejection nozzle comprising a chamber having an ink inlet, a nozzle aperture, and a thermal actuator for ejecting ink from the chamber through the nozzle aperture. The substrate defines ink feed channels for the ink ejection nozzles. Each of the ink feed channels extends from at least one ink inlet towards the ink supply side of the substrate, thereby providing fluid connection between the at least one ink inlet and the ink supply side. Each of the ink feed channels is at least 50 microns long. Feeding ink to the chambers from the opposing side of the substrate through relatively long feed channels practically eliminates, or at least dampens, any fluidic effects on adjacent nozzles.

Claims (9)

1. An inkjet printhead comprising:

a substrate having an ink ejection side and an opposite ink supply side, the ink ejection side supporting an array of ink ejection nozzles, each ink ejection nozzle comprising:

a chamber for storing ink to be ejected, the chamber having an ink inlet and a nozzle aperture; and

a thermal actuator for ejecting ink from the chamber through the nozzle aperture;

said substrate defining ink feed channels for the ink ejection nozzles, each of the ink feed channels extending from at least one ink inlet towards the ink supply side of the substrate, thereby providing fluid connection between the at least one ink inlet and the ink supply side;

wherein each of the ink feed channels is at least 50 microns long.

2. An inkjet printhead according to claim 1 wherein each of the ink feed channels is at least 100 microns long.

3. An inkjet printhead according to claim 1 wherein each of the ink feed channels is approximately 200 microns long.

4. An inkjet printhead according to claim 1 wherein the array of nozzles is pagewidth and self cooling such that heat generated by the thermal actuator during normal operating mode is removed by the ejected ink drops.
