Electrical distribution functional module
View Patent ↗A functional module comprises a front cover having a front side defining an electrical distribution function and a back cover having a back side defining a plurality of shielded plugs. A contact set is adapted to communicate electrical power via the shielded plugs for the electrical distribution function. The front cover and said back cover are configured to latch together so as to enclose at least a portion of the contact set.
1. A functional module comprising:
a housing having a front cover having a front face defining an electrical distribution function and a back cover having a back face defining a plurality of shielded plugs;
a plurality of latches and a corresponding plurality of catches disposed on each side around the periphery of said faces so as to hold together said covers; and
a contact set at least partially enclosed by the housing,
wherein said front face defines an electrical distribution function,
wherein said back face defines a plurality of shielded plugs,
wherein said contact set is adapted to communicate electrical power via said shielded plugs for said electrical distribution function, and
wherein each of the shielded plugs comprise:
a prong;
a wall disposed around the prong having a generally rectangular shape.
2. The functional module according to claim 1 wherein the contact set comprises:
a buss;
a ground clip; and
a ground bar,
wherein each of said buss, ground clip and ground bar are separately stamped and folded parts that are fixedly attached together.
3. A functional module adapted to removably connect to a wiring module mounted within an electrical box and connected to a power cable, said functional module comprising;
a housing providing an electrical distribution function on a first face and a plurality of prongs extending from the opposite second face;
a around contact set at least partially enclosed within the housing; and
a plurality of shields disposed with a generally rectangular shape around the prongs and extending from the second face substantially the length of the prongs,
wherein the ground contact set comprises a plurality of separately stamped and folded parts that are fixedly attached together,
wherein the ground contact set provides a plurality of ground clips for the electrical distribution function and a ground bar adapted to provide a ground path between the wiring module and the electrical distribution function,
wherein the housing comprises a first cover defining the first face and a second cover defining the second face, and
wherein the covers are latched together on each of a plurality of opposite sides disposed around the periphery of the faces.
4. A functional module comprising:
a front face providing access to an electrical distribution function;
a back face opposite the front face;
a power contact set including a plurality of prongs extending from the back face; and
a plurality of shields disposed in a generally rectangular cross-section around the prongs and extending from the back face about the length of the prongs so as to form in conjunction with the prongs a plurality of shield plugs,
wherein the shielded plugs are configured to removably and electrically connect to a wiring module so as to provide communications between the electrical distribution function and an electrical power source via the wiring module.

The functional module according to claim 4 wherein the electrical distribution function comprises a plurality of electrical outlets, the functional module further comprising a ground contact set configured to provide a ground path between the outlets and the wiring module, the ground contact set comprising:
a buss; and
a first ground contact and a second ground contact riveted to the buss,
wherein the first ground contact has a first ground clip disposed proximate a first one of the outlets and a ground bar extending from the back face, the ground bar configured to removably insert into a corresponding ground connector on the wiring module, and
wherein the second ground contact has a second ground clip disposed proximate a first one of the outlets.
6. The functional module according to claim 5 further comprising:
a front cover defining the front face and a back cover defining the back face,
wherein the covers are latched together on each of a plurality of opposite sides disposed around the periphery of the faces so as to at least partially enclose the power contact set and the ground contact set.
