Substrate including digital photographic image and coded image data
View Patent ↗A substrate having a digital photographic image and coded image data disposed thereon is provided. The image data corresponds to the digital photographic image, thereby facilitating reproduction of the image from the substrate.
1. A method of communicating digital image data to a computer system, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a substrate having a photographic image and coded data printed on a same surface thereof, wherein the coded data is superimposed with the photographic image and encodes digital image data of the image represented on the substrate;
reading the coded data using a coded data reader;
decoding the read coded data to generate digital image data; and
communicating the digital image data to a computer system.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the image data is printed on the substrate with an infra-red absorbing ink.
3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the ink has negligible absorption in the visible spectrum.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the photographic image is printed on the substrate with visible inks.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image data is printed under the photographic image or printed over the photographic image.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image data is fault tolerant encoded.
7. The method of claim 4 , wherein the image data is encoded using Reed-Solomon encoding.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the substrate is a paper substrate.
