Sealing courses of shingles
The present invention relates to improved wind lift resistant self-sealing shingles having an adhesive-to-adhesive seal between courses of shingle installation.

19 . The process of producing a shingle unit suitable for overlapping course installation having a first band of roofing adhesive applied across the horizontal length of the unit top surface in a predetermined overlappable area and having a second band of the adhesive aligned with the first band applied across the bottom under surface of the unit which comprises:
(a) depositing a roofing adhesive in a thickness of between about 5 and about 40 mils in a horizontal overlappable area across the length of the top surface of the unit and
(b) depositing a bondable adhesive in approximately the same thickness in a similar horizontal area across the under surface of the unit.

The process of claim 19 wherein the adhesive has a softening point of from about 170° to about 220° F.; a penetration at 77° F. of from about 20 to about 75; a thermosel viscosity at 350° F. of between about 250 and about 1500 cp and a ductility at 77° F. of between about 40 and about 80 cm/min.
21 . The process of claim 19 where the unit is a unitary shingle unit.
22 . The process of claim 19 where the unit is a composite shingle unit.
