Abstract

A tape dispenser comprises a cylindrical hub for rotatably supporting a roll of tape, and a dispensing arm extends radially outwardly of the hub and has a tape guide on the bottom thereof by which tape is arched concavely toward an underlying surface as the tape is displaced from the dispenser and applied to the underlying surface. A brake arrangement on the dispenser is operable manually by a user to stop or otherwise control rotation of a tape roll during a dispensing operation.

Claims (21)

1. A tape dispenser comprising a support for a roll of tape and a dispensing arm extending radially of said support and having an inner end and an outer end spaced from said inner end, said arm including a top and spaced apart sides between said inner and outer ends and tape guide means between said sides and extending in the direction from said inner end toward said outer end of said arm, said tape guide means having an exposed lowermost side facing downwardly for engaging and imparting an arcuate contour to tape being dispensed transverse to said sides and inwardly adjacent said outer end of said arm.

2. The tape dispenser of claim 1 , said arm further including a tape applicator at said outer end thereof.

3. The tape dispenser of claim 1 , and a tape retaining tab extending inwardly from each of said opposite sides in overlying relation to said tape guide means.

4. The tape dispenser of claim 1 , said tape guide means including a plurality of ribs extending in the direction between said inner and outer ends of said arm.

5. The tape dispenser of claim 4 , wherein said plurality of ribs includes a pair of central ribs and a rib laterally outwardly adjacent each of said central ribs.

6. The tape dispenser of claim 5 , and a tape retaining tab extending inwardly from each of said opposite sides in overlying relation to said tape guide means.

7. The tape dispenser of claim 1 , wherein said support includes a hub for rotatably supporting a roll of tape and a wall spaced from said hub and radially displaceable toward and away therefrom to provide a brake for restraining rotation of a tape roll mounted on said hub.

8. A tape dispenser comprising a support for a roll of tape and a dispensing arm extending radially of said support and having an inner end and an outer end spaced from said inner end, said arm including a top and spaced apart sides between said inner end toward said outer end of said arm for imparting an arcuate contour to tape being dispensed transverse to said sides and inwardly adjacent said outer end of said arm, said tape guide means including a plurality of ribs extending in the direction between said inner and outer ends of said arm, said plurality of ribs including a pair of central ribs and a rib laterally outwardly adjacent each of said central ribs, and a tape retaining tab extending inwardly from each of said opposite sides in overlying relation to said tape guide means, said tape retaining tabs being inwardly adjacent said outer end of said arm and the ribs laterally outwardly adjacent said central ribs extending from said inner end of said arm and terminating adjacent the tape retaining tabs.

9. The tape dispenser of claim 8 , wherein said central ribs have bottom edges and said ribs laterally outwardly adjacent said central ribs have bottom edges spaced from the bottom edges of the central ribs in the direction toward the top of said arm.

10. The tape dispenser of claim 9 , wherein said support includes a hub for rotatably supporting a roll of tape and a wall spaced from said hub and radially displaceable toward and away therefrom to provide a brake for restraining rotation of a tape roll mounted on said hub.

11. A tape dispenser comprising a support for a roll of tape and a dispensing arm extending radially of said support and having an inner end spaced from said inner end, said arm including a top and spaced apart sides between said inner and outer ends and tape guide means between said sides and extending in the direction from said inner end toward said outer end of said arm for imparting an arcuate contour to tape being dispensed transverse to said sides and inwardly adjacent said outer end of said arm, said tape guide means including a plurality of ribs extending in the direction between said inner and outer ends of said arm, said plurality of ribs including a pair of central ribs and a rib laterally outwardly adjacent each of said central ribs, said central ribs having bottom edges and said ribs laterally outwardly adjacent said central ribs having bottom edges spaced from the bottom edges of the central ribs in the direction toward the top of said arm.

12. The tape dispenser of claim 11 , and a tape retaining tab extending inwardly from each of said opposite sides in overlying relation to said tape guide means.

13. A tape dispenser comprising a support for a roll of tape and a dispensing arm extending radially of said support and having an inner end spaced from said inner end, said arm including a top and spaced apart sides between said inner and outer ends and tape guide means between said sides and extending in the direction from said inner end toward said outer end of said arm for imparting an arcuate contour to tape being dispensed transverse to said sides and inwardly adjacent said outer end of said arm, said spaced apart sides including spaced apart side walls having outer and inner sides, and said outer sides converging in the direction from said inner end of said arm toward said outer end thereof.

14. A tape dispenser comprising a support for a roll of tape and a dispensing arm extending radially of said support and having an inner end and an outer end spaced from said inner end, said arm including a top and spaced apart sides between said inner and outer ends, and a tape guide between said sides comprising at least one central rib spaced inwardly of and extending parallel to said sides and a pair of ribs each between said at least one central rib and a different one of said sides and parallel to said at least one central rib, said at least one central rib having a bottom edge spaced below said top, and each rib of said pair of ribs having a bottom edge spaced from the bottom edge of said at least one central rib in the direction toward said top.

15. The tape dispenser of claim 14 , and a tape retaining tab extending inwardly from each of said sides.

16. The tape dispenser of claim 15 , wherein each tape retaining tab extends inwardly and downwardly relative to the corresponding side.

17. The tape dispenser of claim 15 , wherein the tape retaining tabs are inwardly adjacent the other end of said arm and said pair of ribs extend from said inner end of said arm and terminate adjacent the tape retaining tabs.

18. The tape dispenser of claim 17 , wherein each tape retaining tab extends inwardly and downwardly relative to the corresponding side.

19. The tape dispenser of claim 18 , wherein said at least one central rib includes a pair of central ribs.

20. The tape dispenser of claim 19 , and a tape applicator at said outer end of said arm.

21. The tape dispenser of claim 20 , wherein said support includes a hub for rotatably supporting a roll of tape and a wall spaced from said hub and radially displaceable toward and away therefrom to provide a brake for restraining rotation of a tape roll mounted on said hub.
