Method of treating or preventing pathologic effects of acute increases in hyperglycemia and/or acute increases of free fatty acid flux
View Patent ↗One aspect of the present invention relates to a method of treating or preventing pathologic sequelae of acute hyperglycemia and/or increased fatty acid flux in a subject. This method involves administering an ROS inhibitor to the subject. In addition, methods of promoting neovascularization, inhibiting oxidation or excessive release of free fatty acids, and identifying compounds suitable for treatment or prevention of ROS-mediated injury are also disclosed.
1. A method of treating a foot ulcer in a diabetic subject, said method comprising:
administering deferoxamine to the diabetic subject having a foot ulcer in an amount and manner effective to heal said foot ulcer.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said administering is carried out transdermally.
3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said administering is carried out intravenously.
4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said administering is carried out intraperitoneally.
5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said administering is carried out topically.
6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the deferoxamine is administered with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, excipient, and/or stabilizer.
7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the subject is human.
8. A method of treatment, comprising administering a deferoxamine derivative to a diabetic subject having a non-healing foot ulcer in an amount and manner effective to heal said non-healing foot ulcer wherein said deferoxamine is selected from the group consisting of formamide-deferoxamine, acetamide-deferoxamine, propylamide-deferoxamine, butylamide-deferoxamine, benzoylamide-deferoxamine, succinamide-deferoxamine, methylsulfonamide-deferoxamine and hydroxyethyl starch (HES)-deferoxamine.
9. The method of claim 8 wherein the deferoxamine derivative is administered by intravenous injection or transdermal iniection.
10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the deferoxamine derivative is administered intraperitoneally.
