Abstract

A band translation method and device for selecting two or more desired frequency bands of data and bandstacking the two or more desired frequency bands of data into a single output.

Claims (13)

1. A band translation switch comprising:

a) at least first and second source selection switches, each one of the first and second source selection switches being operatively connected to each one of a plurality of sources, each of the first and second source selection switches comprising at least two inputs and a single output;

b) a low band translator operatively connected to the single output of the first source selection switch; the low band translator having a first bypass switch having a first position in which the low band translator is in circuit, the first bypass switch further having a second position in which the low band translator is bypassed;

c) a high band translator operatively connected to the single output of the second source selection switch; the high band translator having a second bypass switch having a first position in which the high band translator is in circuit, the second bypass switch further having a second position in which the high band translator is bypassed; and

d) a frequency stacker having a first operative connection to the low band translator and having a second operative connection to the high band translator.

2. The band translation switch of claim 1 , wherein the frequency stacker's first operative connection further comprises a low pass filter.

3. The band translation switch of claim 1 , wherein the frequency stacker's second operative connection further comprises a high pass filter.

4. The band translation switch of claim 1 , wherein each one of the plurality of sources comprises a coaxial cable carrying at least one band of RF data.

5. The band translation switch of claim 4 , wherein the coaxial cable carries the at least one band of RF data from a satellite communications device.

6. The band translation switch of claim 1 , further comprising: a) a third operative connection from the frequency stacker to a television converter device having at least a first and second tuner.

7. The band translation switch of claim 6 , wherein the third operative connection comprises a separator.

8. The band translation switch of claim 7 , wherein the first and second source selection switches are responsive to signals received from the at least first and second tuners.

9. The band translation switch of claim 1 , further comprising: a) one or more cascadable outputs being operatively connected to one or more of the said plurality of sources.
