Abstract

A brow bar and lens assembly for eyeglasses is provided wherein a flexible brow bar member is attached to a lens assembly only along a central region. By attaching the lens and brow bar in this manner, the brow bar is allowed to flex relative to the lens thereby providing additional means for adjusting the width of the eyeglasses and increasing the comfort for the wearer. Further, the lens construction may include channels along its top edge thereby creating voids that provide a space into which the two ends of the brow bar can travel when deflected relative to the central region.

Claims (18)

1. An eyeglass assembly comprising:

a brow bar having a first end, a second end opposite said first end and a central region located between said first and second ends; and

a lens assembly including a first end, a second end, a top edge extending between said first and second ends, said top edge including a central attachment region and first and second side regions and first and second channels formed along said top edge in said first and second side regions respectively, said lens assembly extending from said first end of said brow bar to said second end of said brow bar, said lens assembly attached to said brow bar only at said central attachment region, wherein said first and second ends of said brow bar are not restrained by said lens assembly and can be deflected relative to said lens assembly, said first and second channels each defining a space to allow outward deflection of said first and second ends of said brow bar.

2. The eyeglass assembly of claim 1 , wherein said brow bar is flexible.

3. The eyeglass assembly of claim 1 , further comprising:

first and second temple bars extending rearwardly from said first and second ends of said brow bar respectively, wherein deflecting said first and second temple bars apart from one another causes said first and second ends of said brow bar to deflect in a forward direction relative to said central region.

4. The eyeglass assembly of claim 1 , wherein said brow bar is a two piece brow bar having a left side and a right side, said left and right brow bar sides each having first and second ends, said first ends of said left and right brow bar sides extending inwardly toward said central region, said first ends being attached to said lens assembly at said central region.

5. An eyeglass assembly comprising:

a flexible brow bar having a first end, a second end opposite said first end and a central region located between said first and second ends; and

a lens assembly including:

a first end,

a second end,

a top edge extending between said first and second ends, said top edge including a central attachment region and first and second side regions, and

first and second channels formed along said top edge in said first and second side regions respectively, said first and second channels each defining a cavity therein,

wherein said lens assembly attached to said brow bar using fastening means to connect said central attachment region of said lens assembly to said central region of said brow bar, wherein said first and second ends of said brow bar are not restrained by said lens assembly, said first and second channels each defining a space to allow outward deflection of said first and second ends of said brow bar.

6. The eyeglass assembly of claim 5 , further comprising:

first and second temple bars extending rearwardly from said first and second ends of said brow bar respectively, wherein deflecting said first and second temple bars apart from one another causes said first and second ends of said brow bar to deflect in a forward direction relative to said lens assembly.

7. The eyeglass assembly of claim 5 , wherein said brow bar is a two piece brow bar having a left side and a right side, said left and right brow bar sides each having first and second ends, said first ends of said left and right brow bar sides extending inwardly toward said central region, said first ends being attached to said lens assembly at said central region.
