Abstract

A method of manufacturing a crystalline that is a ceramic phosphor material having a structural defect such that the ceramic material within the ceramic phosphor material is used to shield and absorb the radiation emitted by a nuclear core while the phosphors are excited by radioactive radiation causing them to produce energy in the form of photons. This method includes the use of a slurry of materials including ceramic and phosphor material that is mixed and undergoes a thermal plasma process wherein structural defects are added to form a light dissipating material that when cooled forms the crystalline.

Claims (15)

1 . A method of creating a crystalline for a nuclear cored battery comprising the steps of:

providing a ceramic phosphor slurry,

subjecting the ceramic phosphor slurry to a thermal plasma process; and

adding a structural defect during the thermal plasma process to create a light dissipating material.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the ceramic phosphor slurry is layered on a nuclear core.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the ceramic phosphor slurry comprises a matrix of (Al2O3).

4 . The method of claim 1 wherein the structural defect is a carbon defect.

5 . The method of claim 4 wherein the step of adding a carbon defect comprises the steps of cooling the ceramic phosphor slurry with a quenching gas; and incepting the ceramic phosphor slurry with the quenching gas.

6 . The method of claim 5 wherein the quenching gas is carbon dioxide.

7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the structural defect is a lanthide defect.

8 . A method of creating a crystalline for a nuclear cored battery comprising the steps of:

providing a homogenous mixture comprising a ceramic phosphor slurry;

heating the homogenous mixture to create a layer of ceramics having an alumina structure;

subjecting the layer of ceramics having an alumina structure to a thermal plasma process to form a light dissipating material; and

cooling the light dissipating material with a quenching gas.
