Abstract

A layered battery having a nuclear-cored energy source. The layered battery is created by spraying P and N layers on a plurality of nuclear-cored energy producing spheres that are in the form of a powder. The spraying of the P and N layers forms a sheet of material having a P layer and an N layer that is used as a battery. This sheet is then disposed within a casing having a first and second end. The P layer is connected to the first end of the case forming an anode and the N layer is connected to the second end of the case forming an electrode. Thus a disposable sized battery is formed that has a nuclear cored energy source.

Claims (45)

1. A layered battery comprising:

a housing having a first end and a second end;

a nuclear core energy source sheet comprising a P layer and an N layer sandwiching a plurality of nuclear-cored energy producing spheres in the form of a powder disposed within the housing;

a first conductive lead that connects the sheet to the first end of the housing to form an anode; and

a second conductive lead that connects the sheet to the second end of the housing to form an electrode,

wherein each of said nuclear-cored energy producing spheres comprises:

a spherical core of nuclear material;

a ceramic phosphor layer surrounding the spherical core, said ceramic phosphor layer serving to shield radiation emitted from the core by absorbing said radiation and converting said radiation to photons;

a photovoltaic layer surrounding said ceramic phosphor layer for converting said photons into a spherical flow of electrons; and

a conductive material surrounding said photovoltaic layer.

2. The layered battery of claim 1 wherein the sheet is rolled.

3. The layered battery of claim 1 wherein the first conductive lead is connected to the P layer.

4. The layered battery of claim 1 wherein the second conductive lead is connected to the N layer.

5. The layered battery of claim 1 further comprising an electrical insulating material surrounding the sheet.

6. The layered battery of claim 1 wherein the housing is metal.

7. The layered battery of claim 1 wherein the housing is plastic.

8. A layered battery comprising:

a housing having a first end and a second end;

a plurality of nuclear core energy source sheets, each sheet comprising a P layer and an N layer sandwiching a plurality of nuclear-cored energy producing spheres in the form of a powder, adjacent to each other and disposed within the housing;

wherein one sheet contacts the first end of the housing to form an anode; and

another sheet contacts the second end of the housing to form an electrode,

wherein each of said nuclear-cored energy producing spheres comprises:

a spherical core of nuclear material;

a ceramic phosphor layer surrounding the spherical core, said ceramic phosphor layer serving to shield radiation emitted from the core by absorbing said radiation and converting said radiation to photons;

a photovoltaic layer surrounding said ceramic phosphor layer for converting said photons into a spherical flow of electrons; and

a conductive material surrounding said photovoltaic layer.

9. The layered battery of claim 8 wherein the first conductive lead is connected to a P layer.

10. The layered battery of claim 8 wherein the second conductive lead is connected to an N layer.

11. The layered battery of claim 8 , wherein the housing is metal.

12. The layered battery of claim 8 , wherein the housing is plastic.

13. A layered battery comprising:

a housing having a first end and a second end;

a plurality of energy source sheets, each sheet comprising a P layer and an N layer sandwiching a plurality of nuclear-cored energy producing spheres in the form of a powder, adjacent to each other and disposed within the housing;

wherein an insulating material surrounds the sheets;

a first conductive lead that connects the sheet adjacent to a first end of the housing to the first end of the housing to form an anode; and

a second conductive lead that connects the sheet adjacent to a second end of the housing to the second end of the housing to form an electrode,

wherein each of said nuclear-cored energy producing spheres comprises:

a spherical core of nuclear material;

a ceramic phosphor layer surrounding the spherical core, said ceramic phosphor layer serving to shield radiation emitted from the core by absorbing said radiation and converting said radiation to photons;

a photovoltaic layer surrounding said ceramic phosphor layer for converting said photons into a spherical flow of electrons; and

a conductive material surrounding said photovoltaic layer.

14. The layered battery of claim 13 wherein the first conductive lead is connected to a P layer of the sheet adjacent to the first end of the housing.

15. The layered battery of claim 13 wherein the second conductive lead is connected to an N layer of the sheet adjacent to the second end of the housing.

16. The layered battery of claim 13 , wherein the housing is metal.

17. The layered battery of claim 13 , wherein the housing is plastic.
