Abstract

Aspects of a method and system for parsing bits in an interleaver for adaptive modulations in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless local area network (WLAN) system are provided. The interleaver may assign at least one binary bit of information, among a plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to one of a plurality of spatial streams based on a current modulation type. A subsequent binary bit of information, among a plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, may be assigned to a subsequent one of the plurality of spatial streams based on the current modulation type and/or a subsequent modulation type. The interleaver may assign at least one additional bit of information, among the plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to one of a plurality of spatial streams based on the current modulation type and/or the subsequent modulation type.

Claims (25)

1. A method for processing information in a communications system, the method comprising:

computing a sum for a plurality of spatial streams based on a number of bits associated with a corresponding modulation type identifier for at least one of said plurality of spatial streams;

computing a maximum value of a numbered element in a look up table (LUT) based on a number that is proportional to said computed sum;

assigning at least one binary bit of information, among a plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to one of said plurality of spatial streams based on a current modulation type identifier;

assigning at least one subsequent binary bit of information among said plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to a subsequent said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on said current modulation type identifier and a subsequent modulation type identifier; and

assigning at least one additional binary bit of information, among said plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on said current modulation type identifier and said subsequent modulation type identifier.

2. The method according to claim 1 , comprising assigning a bit index to said at least one binary bit of information and said at least one subsequent binary bit of information, among said plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, wherein said bit index is modulo numbered based on said computed maximum value.

3. The method according to claim 2 wherein said at least one binary bit of information is assigned to said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on a correspondence between said bit index and said numbered element in said LUT.

4. A system for processing information in a communications system, the system comprising:

at least one circuit that is operable to compute a sum for a plurality of spatial streams based on a number of bits associated with a corresponding modulation type identifier for at least one of said plurality of spatial streams;

said at least one circuit is operable to compute a maximum value of a numbered element in a look up table (LUT) based on a number that is proportional to said computed sum;

said at least one circuit is operable to assign at least one binary bit of information, among a plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to one of said plurality of spatial streams based on a current modulation type identifier;

said at least one circuit is operable to assign at least one subsequent binary bit of information, among said plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to a subsequent said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on said current modulation type identifier and a subsequent modulation type identifier; and

said at least one circuit is operable to assign at least one additional binary bit of information, among said plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, to said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on said current modulation type identifier and said subsequent modulation type identifier.

5. The system according to claim 4 , said at least one circuit is operable to assign a bit index to said at least one binary bit of information and said at least one subsequent binary bit of information, among said plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, wherein said bit index is modulo numbered based on said computed maximum value.

6. The system according to claim 5 wherein said at least one binary bit of information is assigned to said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on a correspondence between said bit index and said numbered element in said LUT.

7. The system according to claim 4 , wherein said at least one circuit comprises an interleaver.

8. A method for processing information in a communications system, the method comprising:

computing a sum for a plurality of spatial streams based on a number of bits associated with a corresponding modulation type identifier for at least one of said plurality of spatial streams;

computing a maximum value of a numbered element in a look up table (LUT) based on a number that is proportional to said computed sum;

retrieving at least one binary bit of information, among a plurality of received binary bits of information, from one of said plurality of spatial streams based on a current modulation type identifier;

retrieving at least one subsequent binary bit of information among said plurality of received binary bits of information, from a subsequent said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on said current modulation type identifier and a subsequent modulation type identifier; and

retrieving at least one additional binary bit of information, among said plurality of retrieved binary bits of information, from said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on said current modulation type identifier and said subsequent modulation type identifier.

9. The method according to claim 8 , comprising assigning a bit index to said at least one binary bit of information and said at least one subsequent binary bit of information, among said plurality of binary bits of information to be transmitted, wherein said bit index is modulo numbered based on said computed maximum value.

10. The method according to claim 9 wherein said at least one binary bit of information is assigned to said one of a plurality of spatial streams based on a correspondence between said bit index and said numbered element in said LUT.
