Abstract

A system for securing a mask onto a subject's head is provided. The system may include a mask base, a mask latch, and a mask head strap. The mask base may be configured to support a gas delivery conduit for delivering gas to the subject. The mask latch may be pivotally coupled to the mask base about an axis extending generally laterally across the mask base. The mask head strap may be configured to be positioned around a subject's head and coupled to the mask latch such that rotation of the mask latch about the axis and relative to the mask base adjusts the mask head strap.

Claims (36)

1. A system for securing a mask onto a subject's head, the system comprising:

a mask base configured to support a gas delivery conduit for delivery gas to the subject;

a mask latch pivotally coupled to the mask base about an axis extending generally laterally across the mask base; and

a mask head strap configured to be positioned around a subject's head, the mask head strap coupled to the mask latch such that rotation of the mask latch about the axis and relative to the mask base adjusts the mask head strap, wherein:

the mask head strap comprises a first strap portion and a second strap portion, the second strap portion being more flexible than the first strap portion; and

rotation of the mask latch relative to the mask base stretches both the first strap portion and the second strap portion to tighten the mask head strap around the subject's head.

2. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the first strap portion is formed from neoprene.

3. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the second strap portion is formed from elastic.

4. A system for securing a mask onto a subject's head, the system comprising:

a mask base configured to support a gas delivery conduit for delivery gas to the subject;

a mask latch pivotally coupled to the mask base about an axis extending generally laterally across the mask base; and

a mask head strap configured to be positioned around a subject's head, the mask head strap coupled to the mask latch such that rotation of the mask latch about the axis and relative to the mask base adjusts the mask head strap, wherein:

the mask base defines one or more strap guides; and

rotation of the mask latch relative to the mask base moves the mask head strap along the one or more strap guides.

5. A system according to claim 4 , wherein:

the mask latch rotates between an open position and a closed position;

the one or more strap guides are configured such that when the mask latch is in the closed position, tension in the mask head strap generates a moment in the mask latch toward the closed position.

6. A gas delivery mask apparatus, comprising:

a face mask configured to deliver gas to a subject;

a gas delivery conduit for delivering gas to the face mask;

a mask base configured to support the gas delivery conduit;

a mask latch pivotally coupled to the mask base about an axis extending laterally across the mask base; and

a mask head strap configured to be positioned around a subject's head, the mask head strap coupled to the mask latch such that rotation of the mask latch about the axis and relative to the mask base adjusts the mask head strap, wherein:

the mask head strap comprises a first strap portion and a second strap portion, the second strap portion being more flexible than the first strap portion; and

rotation of the mask latch relative to the mask base stretches both the first strap portion and the second strap portion to tighten the mask head strap around the subject's head.

7. A gas delivery mask apparatus, comprising:

a face mask configured to deliver gas to a subject;

a gas delivery conduit for delivering gas to the face mask;

a mask base configured to support the gas delivery conduit;

a mask latch pivotally coupled to the mask base about an axis extending laterally across the mask base; and

a mask head strap configured to be positioned around a subject's head, the mask head strap coupled to the mask latch such that rotation of the mask latch about the axis and relative to the mask base adjusts the mask head strap, wherein:

the mask base defines one or more strap guides; and

rotation of the mask latch relative to the mask base moves the mask head strap along the one or more strap guides.

8. A mask apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein:

the mask latch rotates between an open position and a closed position;

the one or more strap guides are configured such that when the mask latch is in the closed position, tension in the mask head strap generates a moment in the mask latch toward the closed position.
