Abstract

A method for manufacturing an organic EL device comprising: coating a composition including an organic EL material on a plurality of electrodes to form an organic EL layer on each electrode; defining an effectively optical area in which the plurality of electrodes are formed; and defining a coating area which is broader than the effectively optical area, on which the composition including an organic EL material is to be coated. According to this method, a uniform display device without uneven luminance and uneven chrominance within a pixel or among a plurality of pixels in the effectively optical area can be obtained.

Claims (9)

1. A method of manufacturing an organic EL device having an effective optical area in which a plurality of display pixels related to display and at least one dummy pixel not related to display are arranged such that the at least one dummy pixel is arranged between two adjacent display pixels, comprising:

applying a composition in a pattern to the plurality of display pixels and the at least one dummy pixel, the composition including an organic EL material dissolved or dispersed in a solution; and

drying the applied composition to form organic EL layers on the at least one dummy pixel and the two adjacent display pixels, the organic EL layers of the two adjacent display pixels and the at least one dummy pixel being separated from each other.

2. The method of manufacturing an organic EL device according to claim 1 , the composition being applied by an ink-jet method.

3. The method of manufacturing an organic EL device according to claim 1 , the at least one dummy pixel and the two adjacent display pixels having substantially the same shape.

4. The method of manufacturing an organic EL device according to claim 1 , the plurality of display pixels including a first pixel and a second pixel that emits a different color from the first pixel.

5. A method of manufacturing an organic EL device having an effective optical area in which a plurality of display pixels related to display and at least one dummy pixel not related to display are arranged such that the at least one dummy pixel is arranged between first and second adjacent display pixels, comprising:

applying a composition separately to each of the plurality of display pixels and the at least one dummy pixel, the composition including an organic EL material dissolved or dispersed in a solution; and

drying the applied composition to form an organic EL layer on the at least one dummy pixel, an organic EL layer on the first adjacent display pixel, and an organic EL layer on the second adjacent display pixel, wherein the organic EL layer on the first adjacent display pixel, the organic EL layer on the second adjacent display pixel, and the organic EL layer on the at least one dummy pixel are separated from each other.
