Tissue everting device and method
A device for everting an end of a hollow tissue structure may include a mandrel and a collar proximal to the mandrel. The mandrel may be elastomeric and deformable. At least one of the collar and the mandrel may be movable relative to the other. Deformation of the mandrel everts the end of the hollow tissue structure.
1 . A device for everting an end of a hollow tissue structure, comprising:
an elastomeric mandrel narrower at its distal end than at its proximal end;
a rod connected to said mandrel; and
a collar proximal to said mandrel, wherein at least one of said collar and said mandrel is movable relative to the other.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least part of said mandrel is substantially tapered.
3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said mandrel is bistable.
4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said rod extends through at least part of said collar.
5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least part of said collar is substantially tubular.
6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said collar and said mandrel is slidable relative to the other.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said mandrel is substantially cone-shaped.
8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said mandrel includes a bulge between its proximal and distal ends.
9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said mandrel is substantially radially symmetrical.
10 . A tissue everter, comprising
a deformable mandrel; and
a collar proximal to said mandrel, wherein at least one of said collar and said mandrel is movable relative to the other to deform said mandrel.
11 . The tissue everter of claim 10 , wherein said mandrel is elastically deformable.
12 . The tissue everter of claim 10 , further comprising a rod connected to said mandrel, wherein said rod extends through at least part of said collar.
13 . The tissue everter of claim 10 , wherein said mandrel is bistable.
14 . The device of claim 10 , wherein at least part of said collar is substantially tubular.
15 . The device of claim 10 , wherein said mandrel includes a bulge between its proximal and distal ends.
16 . The device of claim 10 , wherein said mandrel is substantially radially symmetrical.
17 . The device of claim 10 , wherein said mandrel is substantially cone-shaped.
18 . A method for manipulating an end of a hollow tissue structure, comprising:
providing a deformable mandrel and a collar proximal to said mandrel;
placing an end of the hollow tissue structure onto said mandrel; and
moving at least one of said collar and said mandrel relative to the other, wherein said moving causes deformation of said mandrel;
wherein said deformation of said mandrel everts an end of the hollow tissue structure.
19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising a rod connected to said mandrel, wherein said moving includes moving said rod relative to said collar.
20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein said deformation of said mandrel is substantially elastic deformation.
