Abstract

An automated banking machine which dispenses cash and includes a mechanism for accepting deposited items. Deposited items may be provided to the machine in envelopes which are first passed to a user from an envelope storage area ( 132 ) in the machine through a transport ( 124 ) and which are presented to the user through an opening ( 244 ). A user may thereafter include deposit items in the dispensed envelope. The deposited items are passed through the opening ( 244 ) and are deposited in a deposit-holding container ( 128 ). The deposited items may be marked by an inkjet printer with indicia corresponding to the transaction or properties of the deposited item. The operation of the printer is caused by a controller ( 56 ) which controls the operation responsive to one or more environmental parameters.

8. The method according to claim 4 wherein in (b) indicia is printed on a currency bill.

9. The method according to claim 3 wherein in (b) indicia is printed on at least one of a check, an envelope and a currency bill, and further comprising:

(d) dispensing cash from the automated banking machine through operation of the cash dispenser.

10. The method according to claim 4 and further comprising:

(e) sensing humidity at the machine with a humidity sensor, wherein the humidity sensor is in operative connection with the controller;

(f) operating the at least one controller to control operation of the printer responsive to humidity sensed in (e).

11. The method according to claim 10 wherein (f) comprises firing a plurality of nozzles of the inkjet printer at times other than when printing indicia, wherein ink is prevented from drying in blocking relation of the nozzles.

12. The method according to claim 11 wherein in (f) the controller further operates to control firing of the plurality of nozzles responsive to temperature sensed in (d).

13. The method according to claim 12 wherein in (b) the at least one controller operates to control firing energy of the nozzles responsive to humidity sensed in (e).

14. The method according to claim 9 and further comprising:

(e) reading card indicia from a card input by a user to the automated banking machine through operation of a card reader in the machine;

wherein in (d) cash is dispensed to the user responsive to the card indicia read in (e).

15. The method according to claim 14 and further comprising:

(f) prior to (d) receiving a PIN input from the user through an input device on the machine;

wherein in (d) cash is dispensed to the user responsive to the PIN input received in (f).

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein in (b) indicia is printed responsive to the card indicia read in (e).

17. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) sensing temperature with a temperature sensor in the machine, wherein the temperature sensor is in operative connection with the at least one controller;

wherein in (b) the at least one controller operates to control operation of the inkjet printer responsive to temperature sensed in (a).

18. The method according to claim 17 and further comprising:

(d) sensing humidity at the machine with a humidity sensor, wherein the humidity sensor is in operative connection with the at least one controller;

wherein in (b) the at least one controller operates to control operation of the printer responsive to humidity sensed in (d).

19. The method according to claim 18 and further comprising:

(e) operating the at least one controller to cause operation of the inkjet printer at times other than when printing indicia, responsive to humidity sensed in (d), wherein ink is prevented from drying in blocking relation of nozzles of the inkjet printer.

20. The method according to claim 19 wherein in (e) the at least one controller operates the inkjet printer responsive to temperature sensed in (c).

21. The method according to claim 20 wherein in (e) the at least one controller operates the inkjet printer responsive to the at least one altitude value received in (a).

22. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) sensing humidity at the automated banking machine with a humidity sensor, wherein the humidity sensor is in operative connection with the at least one controller;

(d) operating the at least one controller to control operation of the inkjet printer responsive to humidity sensed in (c).

23. The method according to claim 22 wherein ink in the inkjet printer has an associated boiling point, and further comprising:

(e) receiving at least one boiling point value with the at least one controller, wherein the at least one boiling point value corresponds to the boiling point of the ink;

wherein in (d) the at least one controller controls operation of the printer responsive to the at least one boiling point value.

24. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) operating the at least one controller to cause the inkjet printer to operate at times other than when printing indicia, wherein ink is prevented from drying in blocking relation of nozzles of the inkjet printer.
