Devices and method for repair of larynx, trachea, and other fibrocartilaginous tissues
View Patent ↗Provided herein are methods and devices for inducing the formation of functional replacement nonarticular cartilage tissues and ligament tissues. These methods and devices involve the use of osteogenic proteins, and are useful in repairing defects in the larynx, trachea, interarticular menisci, intervertebral discs, ear, nose, ribs and other fibrocartilaginous tissues in a mammal.
1. An implantable device for repairing a defect in a nonarticular cartilage tissue of a mammal, the device consisting essentially of an osteogenic protein disposed in a devitalized cartilage, wherein the osteogenic protein is selected from the group consisting of osteogenic protein (OP)-1, OP-2, OP-3, bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2, BMP-3, BMP-4, BMP-5, BMP-6, BMP-9, BMP-10, BMP-11, BMP-15, BMP-3B, decapentaplegic (DPP), vegetal -1 (Vg-1), vegetal-related-1 (Vgr-1), and 60A protein.
2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the devitalized cartilage is an autologous cartilage or an allogenic cartilage.
3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the osteogenic protein is OP-1.
4. The device of claim 3 , wherein the devitalized cartilage is an allogenic cartilage.
5. An implantable device for repairing a defect in a nonarticular cartilage tissue of a mammal, the device consisting essentially of an osteogenic protein disposed in a carboxymethylcellulose carrier.
6. The device of claim 5 , wherein the osteogenic protein is op-1.
7. The device of claim 5 , wherein the carrier further comprises allogenic or autologous blood.
