Abstract

A liquid crystal display device according to an exemplary embodiment includes: a first panel comprising a first portion and a second portion, wherein the first portion has a height lower than of the second portion; a second panel facing the first panel; a spacer disposed between the first panel and the second panel and contacting the first portion of the first panel; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first panel and the second panel.

Claims (20)

1. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

a first panel comprising a flat surface plate-like conductor first portion and a bar-like conductor second portion;

a plurality of signal lines disposed in the second portion;

a second panel facing the first panel;

a pixel electrode formed on the first panel;

a spacer disposed between the first panel and the second panel, contacting the flat surface plate-like conductor first portion of the first panel, overlapping the pixel electrode, and without overlapping the signal lines; and

wherein the second panel comprises a light blocking member that faces the bar-like conductor second portion of the first panel and partly faces the flat surface plate-like conductor portion of the first panel, and

wherein the spacer overlaps the light blocking member.

2. The liquid crystal display device of claim 1 , wherein the spacer is formed on the second panel.

3. The liquid crystal display device of claim 1 , wherein the spacer is disposed near the second portion of the first panel.

4. The liquid crystal display device of claim 1 , wherein the second portion is opaque and the spacer is disposed near the second portion of the first panel.

5. The liquid crystal display device of claim 4 , wherein the second portion of the first panel encloses the first portion of the first panel.

6. The liquid crystal display device of claim 5 , wherein the first portion of the first panel comprises a pixel electrode and the second portion of the first panel comprises a signal line.

7. The liquid crystal display device of claim 6 , wherein the second panel comprises a common electrode generating an electric field in cooperation with the pixel electrode.

8. The liquid crystal display device of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode is transparent.

9. The liquid crystal display device of claim 7 , further comprising a color filter disposed on one of the first panel and the second panel.

10. The liquid crystal display device of claim 9 , wherein the color filter comprises a red filter, a green filter, and a blue filter.

11. The liquid crystal display device of claim 10 , wherein the spacer overlaps the blue filter.

12. The liquid crystal display device of claim 1 , wherein the second panel has a plurality of openings, at least one of the plurality of openings comprising smaller opening than others.

13. The liquid crystal display device of claim 12 , wherein the smaller opening includes the spacer.
