System and method of order split for transportation planning
A system and method of creating a transportation plan based on split orders. A received order is divided into split freight units that simulate a possible delivery for transportation. A delivery document is created and stored in persistent memory when the simulated split is planned and released.
1 . A computer implemented method comprising:
receiving an order for goods;
simulating a split of the order for transportation; and
generating a shipment document reflecting the split of the order as part of a persistent transportation plan.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein simulating comprises:
defining a split freight unit value based at least in part on a transportation vehicle; and
creating at least one split freight unit and at least one remainder freight unit.
3 . The method of claim 2 wherein creating comprises:
automatically applying a set of rules to the order.
4 . The method of claim 2 further comprising:
adjusting the remainder freight unit responsive to an order change independent of the transportation plan.
5 . The method of claim 2 further comprising:
consolidating a plurality of split freight units as a single freight unit if the plurality is to be shipped on a same vehicle.
6 . The method of claim 2 wherein creating comprises:
checking a shipment compatability of items in the order.
7 . The method of claim 2 wherein creating comprises:
splitting the order into freight units of a minimum transportation package size.
8 . The method of claim 7 further comprising:
applying a weighted distribution of items in the order to a vehicle load.
9 . A system comprising:
a persistant storage unit to retain a tranportation plan;
a volatile memory; and
split logic to simulate a split of an incoming order in the volatile memory.
10 . The system of claim 9 wherein the split logic comprises:
a rule engine to apply a set of rules to the incoming order.
11 . The system of claim 9 wherein the each rule comprises:
a condition; and
an action to be performed responsive to evaluation of the condition.
12 . The system of claim 9 further comprising:
an optimizer.
13 . The system of claim 9 wherein the split logic comprises:
persistency logic to persist a result of the split to the persistent store.
14 . A machine-accessible medium containing instructions that when executed cause a machine to:
receive an order for goods;
simulate a split of the order for transportation; and
generate a shipment document reflecting the split of the order as part of a persistent transportation plan.
15 . The machine accessible median of claim 14 , wherein instructions further cause the machine to:
define a split freight unit value based at least in part on a transportation vehicle; and
create at least one split freight unit and at least one remainder freight unit.
16 . The machine accessible median of claim 15 , wherein instructions to cause the machine to create include instructions to cause the machine to:
automatically apply a set of rules to the order.
17 . The machine accessible median of claim 15 , wherein instructions further cause the machine to:
adjust the remainder freight unit responsive to an order change independent of the transportation plan.
18 . The machine accessible median of claim 15 , wherein instructions further cause the machine to:
consolidate a plurality of split freight units as a single freight unit if the plurality is to be shipped on a same vehicle.
19 . The machine accessible median of claim 15 , wherein instructions to cause the machine to create include instructions to cause the machine to:
check a shipment compatability of items in the order.
20 . The machine accessible median of claim 15 , wherein instructions to cause the machine to create include instructions to cause the machine to:
split the order into freight units of a minimum transportation package size.
21 . The machine accessible median of claim 20 , wherein instructions further cause the machine to:
apply a weighted distribution of items in the order to a vehicle load.
