Abstract

A cam mechanism of a zoom lens, includes a cam ring including cam grooves having different reference cam diagrams on at least one of inner and outer peripheral surfaces of the cam ring; and movable frames which include cam followers respectively engaged in the cam grooves, the movable frames being guided linearly in an optical axis direction. Each of the cam grooves includes a zooming section for moving an associated one of the movable frames between a wide-angle extremity position and a telephoto extremity position in the optical axis direction in accordance with rotation of the cam ring, and a zooming-range-extremity stop section, communicatively connected to one end of the zooming section, for preventing the associated one of the movable frames from moving in the optical axis direction from one of the wide-angle extremity position and the telephoto extremity position even when the cam ring rotates.

Claims (21)

1. A cam mechanism of a zoom lens, comprising:

a cam ring including a plurality of cam grooves having different reference cam diagrams, said cam grooves being formed on at least one of inner and outer peripheral surfaces of said cam ring; and

a plurality of movable frames which include a plurality of cam followers respectively engaged in said plurality of cam grooves, said movable frames being guided linearly in an optical axis direction,

wherein each of said plurality of cam grooves includes a zooming section for moving an associated one of said plurality of movable frames between a wide-angle extremity position and a telephoto extremity position in said optical axis direction in accordance with rotation of said cam ring, and

a zooming-range-extremity stop section, communicatively connected to one end of said zooming section, for preventing said associated one of said movable frames from moving in said optical axis direction from one of said wide-angle extremity position and said telephoto extremity position when said cam ring rotates within said zooming-range-extremity stop section, wherein said zooming-range-extremity stop section is configured to move said each of said movable frames by an amount of movement which offsets an amount of movement of said cam ring in said optical axis direction.

2. The cam mechanism according to claim 1 , further comprising:

at least one rotating drive member which applies a rotational force to said cam ring so as to rotate said cam ring; and

a rotating/axial-moving drive mechanism which moves said cam ring in said optical axis direction while rotating by said rotational force applied to said cam ring by said rotating drive member when each of said plurality of cam followers is in said zooming section.

3. The cam mechanism according to claim 2 , further comprising a linearly movable ring which is positioned around said cam ring, wherein said linearly movable ring is guided linearly in said optical axis direction and moves together with said cam ring in said optical axis direction,

wherein said rotating/axial-moving drive mechanism includes a lead groove formed on said linearly movable ring to extend obliquely in a direction inclined with respect to both said optical axis direction and a circumferential direction of said linearly movable ring; and

a follower formed on an outer peripheral surface of said cam ring to be engaged in said lead groove, and

wherein said zooming-range-extremity stop section is formed as a lead groove section which extends obliquely in a direction opposite to a direction of inclination of said lead groove of said linearly movable ring with respect to a direction of movement of said follower, an angle of inclination of said lead groove section being identical to said lead groove of said linearly movable ring.

4. The cam mechanism according to claim 1 , wherein at least one cam groove and another at least one cam groove among said plurality of cam grooves are formed on said inner and outer peripheral surfaces of said cam ring, respectively.

5. The cam mechanism according to claim 1 , wherein said plurality of movable frames support a plurality of optical elements of a photographing optical system of said zoom lens, respectively.

6. The cam mechanism according to claim 2 , wherein said rotating drive member comprises a helicoid ring which is driven to rotate about said optical axis.

7. A cam mechanism of a zoom lens, comprising:

a cam ring including an outer cam groove and an inner cam groove which are formed on outer and inner peripheral surfaces of said cam ring to have different reference cam diagrams, respectively; and

two movable lens frames, which hold two lens groups adjacent to each other in an optical axis direction, including two cam followers respectively engaged in said outer cam groove and said inner cam groove, and are guided linearly in said optical axis direction,

wherein each of said outer cam groove and said inner cam groove includes a zooming section for moving an associated one of said two movable frames between a wide-angle extremity position and a telephoto extremity position in said optical axis direction in accordance with rotation of said cam ring, and

a zooming-range-extremity stop section, communicatively connected to one end of said zooming section, for preventing said associated one of said two movable frames from moving in said optical axis direction from one of said wide-angle extremity position and said telephoto extremity position when said cam ring rotates within said zooming-range-extremity stop section.

8. The cam mechanism according to claim 7 , wherein said zooming-range-extremity stop section is configured to move both of said two movable frames by an amount of movement which offsets an amount of movement of said cam ring in said optical axis direction.
