Abstract

Compositions and methods based on the use of fluoroalkene containing from 3 to 4 carbon atoms and at least one carbon-carbon double bond, such as HFO-1214, HFO-HFO-1233, or HFO-1354, having properties highly beneficial in solvent cleaning applications.

Claims (43)

1. A solvent cleaning composition comprising 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, at least one alcohol co-solvent, and optionally, at least one additional haloalkene selected from the group consisting of dichloro-tetrafluoro-propene; chloro-trifluoro-propene; and tetrafluorobutenes, said composition having an ozone depleting potential (ODP) of not greater than about 0.5.

2. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said additional haloalkene is an isomer of HFO-1214.

3. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 2 wherein said isomer is 1,2-dichloro-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene.

4. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said additional haloalkene is an isomer of HFO-1233.

5. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 4 wherein said isomer is 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propene.

6. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said additional haloalkene is an isomer of HFO-1354.

7. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 6 wherein said isomer is selected from the group consisting of 2,4,4,4-tetrafluoro-1-butene; 1,1,1,3-tetrafluoro-2-butene; 1,1,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-butene; and mixtures thereof.

8. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 7 wherein said isomer is 2,4,4,4-tetrafluoro-1-butene.

9. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 7 wherein said isomer is 1,1,1,3-tetrafluoro-2-butene.

10. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 7 wherein said isomer is 1,1,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-butene.

11. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 having a global warming potential (GWP) of not greater than about 150.

12. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 11 having a GWP of not greater than about 50.

13. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene has a normal boiling point of from about 45° C. to about 60° C.

14. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene has no flash point.

15. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene is miscible in mineral oil in amounts on a weight ratio basis of from about 80:20 to about 20:80.

16. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 further comprising at least one anticorrosive agent.

17. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 further comprising at least one surfactant.

18. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 further comprising at least one stabilizer.

19. A solvent cleaning composition comprising 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, at least one haloalkene selected from the group consisting of at least one isomer of dichloro-tetrafluoro-propene; and at least one isomer of tetrafluorobutenes, said composition having a global warming potential (GWP) of not greater than about 150.

20. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 wherein said dichloro-tetrafluoro-propene is an isomer of HFO-1214.

21. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 20 wherein said isomer is 1,2-dichloro-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene.

22. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 further comprising 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propene.

23. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 wherein said tetrafluorobutenes is an isomer of HFO-1354.

24. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 23 wherein said isomer is selected from the group consisting of 2,4,4,4-tetrafluoro-1-butene; 1,1,1,3-tetrafluoro-2-butene; 1,1,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-butene; and mixtures thereof.

25. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 24 wherein said isomer is 2,4,4,4-tetrafluoro-1-butene.

26. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 24 wherein said isomer is 1,1,1,3-tetrafluoro-2-butene.

27. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 24 wherein said isomer is 1,1,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-butene.

28. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 having a GWP of not greater than about 50.

29. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene has a normal boiling point of from about 45° C. to about 60° C.

30. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene has no flash point.

31. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene is miscible in mineral oil in amounts on a weight ratio basis of from about 80:20 to about 20:80.

32. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 further comprising at least one anticorrosive agent.

33. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 further comprising at least one surfactant.

34. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 19 further comprising at least one stabilizer.

35. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said alcohol co-solvent is selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, and butanol.

36. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 35 wherein said alcohol co-solvent is methanol.

37. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 35 wherein said alcohol co-solvent is ethanol.

38. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 35 wherein said alcohol co-solvent is isopropanol.

39. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 comprising at least about 10 wt. % of said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene.

40. The solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 comprising at least about 30 wt. % of said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene.

41. A sprayable composition comprising the solvent cleaning composition of claim 1 .

42. The sprayable composition of claim 39 further comprising a propellant.

43. The sprayable composition of claim 39 wherein said composition is an aerosol.
