Abstract

The combination of a flexible pipe, e.g. plastic, and a reinforcing member mounted around the pipe to strengthen the pipe and to enhance its ability to resist deformation under load. In one embodiment the reinforcing member includes a flexible perforated plastic netting containing an aggregation of lightweight elements such as expanded polystyrene beads capable of wrapping around the pipe, preferably in helical fashion along the length of the pipe. In another embodiment, a number of members are mounted on the pipe in longitudinally extending fashion. In all embodiments, the beads provide drainage around the pipe when it is placed in a trench and obviate the need for gravel normally used in conventional systems.

Claims (32)

1. A pipe drainage combination, comprising:

a pipe; and

at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member containing an aggregation of lightweight elements and wherein a cross section taken perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the at least one water-permeable tubular sleeve member and the aggregation of lightweight elements is generally circular,

wherein the at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member has a peripheral portion in tangential contact with a peripheral portion of the pipe.

2. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member is substantially parallel to the pipe.

3. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 2 , further comprising a means for binding the at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member to the pipe.

4. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 2 , further comprising a first binding member that secures the at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member to the pipe.

5. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 4 , wherein the first binding member comprises one of a strap, a netting, and a water-permeable plastic wrap on the exterior of the pipe drainage combination.

6. The pipe drainage combination according the claim 5 , further comprising a second binding member, wherein the second binding member comprises at least one of a strap, a netting, and a water-permeable plastic wrap on the exterior of the pipe drainage combination.

7. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 6 , wherein at least one of the first and second binding members are configured to be removable upon placement of the pipe drainage combination in a trench.

8. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 7 , wherein the pipe is a flexible pipe.

9. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 8 , wherein the pipe is made from a plastic material.

10. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 1 , further comprising a first binding member that secures the at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member to the pipe wherein the first binding member comprises one of a strap, a netting, and a water-permeable plastic wrap on the exterior of the pipe drainage combination.

11. The pipe drainage combination of claim 1 ,

wherein the plurality of flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve members each comprises a tubular sleeve of netting, closed at each end thereof, the aggregation of lightweight elements being contained entirely within the sleeve of netting, and

wherein the aggregation of lightweight elements is comprised of expanded polystyrene beads.

12. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member is helically wound around the pipe.

13. A pipe drainage combination, comprising:

a plurality of pipes; and

a plurality of water-permeable flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve members, each water-permeable flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member containing an aggregation of lightweight elements and wherein a cross section taken perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the water-permeable tubular sleeve members and aggregation of lightweight elements is generally circular,

wherein each water-permeable tubular sleeve member tangentially contacts at least one of the plurality of pipes.

14. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 13 , wherein the plurality of flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve members are substantially parallel to the plurality of pipes.

15. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 13 , further comprising a first binding member configured to secure the plurality of flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member to the pipe.

16. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 15 , wherein the first binding member comprises at least one of a strap, a netting, and a water-permeable plastic wrap on the exterior of the pipe drainage combination.

17. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 16 , further comprising a second binding member wherein the second binding member comprises at least one of a strap, a netting, and a water-permeable plastic wrap on the exterior of the pipe drainage combination.

18. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 15 , wherein at least one of the first and second binding members are configured to be removable upon placement of the pipe drainage combination in a trench.

19. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 18 , wherein the pipe is a flexible, perforated pipe.

20. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 19 , wherein the aggregation of lightweight elements is comprised of expanded polystyrene beads.

21. The pipe drainage combination of claim 13 ,

wherein the plurality of flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve members each comprises a tubular sleeve of netting, closed at each end thereof, the aggregation of lightweight elements being contained entirely within the sleeve of netting, and

wherein the aggregation of lightweight elements is comprised of expanded polystyrene beads.

22. The pipe drainage combination according to claim 13 , further comprising a means for binding the at least one flexible water-permeable tubular sleeve member to the pipe.
