Abstract

A diaphragm positioned in a waste disposal device for holding and twisting flexible tubing dispensed form a cartridge housed in the waste disposal device. The twisting of the tubing is accomplished either by rotating the diaphragm and holding the cartridge stationary, or rotating the cartridge and holding the diaphragm. A rotation mechanism is operatively configured to the waste disposal device for rotating either the cartridge or the diaphragm while impeding the rotation of the other. The twisting of the flexible sealably encapsulates a waste package inserted into the flexible tubing through an opening in the cartridge.

Claims (13)

1. A waste disposal device, comprising:

a cartridge holding a length of flexible tubing, said cartridge being housed in a housing configured to impede rotation of said cartridge; and

a rotation mechanism positioned in said housing, said rotation mechanism comprising a diaphragm having slits through which said flexible tubing from said cartridge may be passed, said rotation mechanism controllably rotating and twisting said flexible tubing extending from said cartridge when said flexible tubing is passed through said slits.

2. The waste disposal device according to claim 1 , wherein said cartridge is supported by said flange.

3. The waste disposal device according to claim 1 , wherein said flexible tubing is twisted above waste inside said flexible tubing when said diaphragm is rotated while said flexible tubing is being held stationary by said cartridge in said housing configured to impede the rotation of said cartridge, thus sealably encapsulating said waste package inside said flexible tubing.

4. The waste disposal device according to claim 3 , wherein said flexible tubing is passed through said slits into a waste chamber, and further comprising an anti-twisting mechanism that extends from said waste chamber into contact with a sealably encapsulated waste package to prevent untwisting of said sealably encapsulated waste package.

5. The waste disposal device according to claim 4 , wherein said anti-twisting mechanism comprises a bar.

6. The waste disposal device according to claim 1 , wherein said diaphragm is rotated by a motorized mechanism.

7. The waste disposal device according to claim 1 , wherein said flexible tubing is passed through said slits into a waste chamber, and wherein said waste chamber has a window for viewing the amount of accumulated waste package in said waste chamber.

8. The waste disposal device according to claim 1 , wherein said diaphragm is below said cartridge within said housing, and wherein said diaphragm rotates said flexible tubing to form a twist in said flexible tubing below said cartridge.

9. A waste disposal device, comprising:

a length of flexible tubing in a housing; and

a rotation mechanism having a diaphragm, said diaphragm having slits through which said flexible tubing is passed so that a portion of said flexible tubing is above said diaphragm and a portion of said flexible tubing is below said diaphragm, said rotation mechanism controllably rotating and twisting said flexible tubing when said flexible tubing is passed through said slits.
