Abstract

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, a second substrate facing the first substrate, and a plurality of pixels in a display area, the pixels comprising a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns and divided into a first pixel group comprising the pixels on a first row and a second pixel group comprising the pixels on a second to last rows, one pixel of the first pixel group has a first opening ratio, one pixel of the second pixel group has a second opening ratio and the first opening ratio is lower than that of the second opening ratio.

Claims (30)

1. A liquid crystal display (LCD), comprising:

a first substrate;

a second substrate facing the first substrate; and

a plurality of pixels in a display area, the pixels comprising a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns and divided into a first pixel group comprising the pixels on a first row and a second pixel group comprising the pixels on a second to last rows,

wherein one pixel of the first pixel group has a first opening ratio, one pixel of the second pixel group has a second opening ratio and the first opening ratio is lower than that of the second opening ratio.

2. The LCD of claim 1 , wherein the first opening ratio is about 60% to about 80% of the second opening ratio.

3. The LCD of claim 2 , further comprising a black matrix layer having a plurality of openings exposing the pixels, wherein the openings exposing the pixels of the first pixel group are smaller than the openings exposing pixels of the second pixel group.

4. The LCD of claim 3 , wherein the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels of the first pixel group have a length smaller than that of the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels of the second pixel group.

5. The LCD of claim 4 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels of the first pixel group overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels of the second pixel group overlap the previous gate line.

6. The LCD of claim 2 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels of the first pixel group overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels of the second pixel group overlap the previous gate line.

7. The LCD of claim 1 , further comprising a black matrix layer having a plurality of openings exposing the pixels, wherein the openings exposing the pixels of the first pixel group are smaller than the openings exposing pixels of the second pixel group.

8. The LCD of claim 7 , wherein the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels of the first pixel group have a length smaller than that of the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels of the second pixel group.

9. The LCD of claim 8 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels of the first pixel group overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels of the second pixel group overlap the previous gate line.

10. The LCD of claim 7 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels of the first pixel group overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels of the second pixel group overlap the previous gate line.

11. The LCD of claim 1 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels of the first pixel group overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels of the second pixel group overlap the previous gate line.

12. A liquid crystal display (LCD), comprising:

a first substrate;

a second substrate facing the first substrate; and

a plurality of pixels in a display area, the pixels comprising a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns, the plurality of rows and plurality of columns comprising a first column pixel group comprising the pixels on a first column, and a second column pixel group comprising the pixels on second to last columns,

wherein the pixels disposed on a first row have a first opening ratio lower than a second opening ratio, and the first column pixel group except for the pixel on the first row and the second column pixel group except for the pixels on the first row have the second opening ratio.

13. The LCD of claim 12 , wherein the first opening ratio is about 60% to about 80% of the second opening ratio.

14. The LCD of claim 13 , further comprising a black matrix layer having a plurality of openings exposing the pixels, wherein the openings exposing the pixels having the first opening ratio are smaller than the openings exposing pixels having the second opening ratio.

15. The LCD of claim 14 , wherein the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels having the first opening ratio have a length smaller than that of the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels having the second opening ratio.

16. The LCD of claim 15 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels having the first opening ratio overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels having the second opening ratio overlap the previous gate line.

17. The LCD of claim 13 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels having the first opening ratio overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels having the second opening ratio overlap the previous gate line.

18. The LCD of claim 12 , further comprising a black matrix layer having a plurality of openings exposing the pixels, respectively, wherein the openings exposing the pixels having the first opening ratio are smaller than the openings exposing pixels having the second opening ratio.

19. The LCD of claim 18 , wherein the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels having the first opening ratio have a length smaller than that of the openings of the black matrix layer exposing the pixels having the second opening ratio.

20. The LCD of claim 19 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels having the first opening ratio overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels having the second opening ratio overlap the previous gate line.

21. The LCD of claim 18 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels having the first opening ratio overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels having the second opening ratio overlap the previous gate line.

22. The LCD of claim 12 , further comprising a storage capacitor line and a previous gate line, wherein the pixels having the first opening ratio overlap the storage capacitor line and the pixels having the second opening ratio overlap the previous gate line.
