System having generalized client-server computing
View Patent ↗A protocol provides generalized client-server computing by providing a server program that can utilize standard and non-standard ports for applications.
1. A computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable code implementing client-side functions of a generalized client-server protocol for:
sending an IP address query message to a DNS server using a hostname for a server;
receiving an IP address for the server from the DNS server;
sending a service request message to the server, the service request message including an installation module that is used for installing on the server a server program separately supplied by a client at a standard or nonstandard TCP port for the generalized client-server protocol;
receiving a response message from the server indicating a port number for receipt of a server program;
sending the server program to the indicated port number to be installed on the server with the installation module; and
starting client-server computing using the server IP address and the received port number as the destination network address of the server program.
