Abstract

A self-cleaning litter apparatus that separates and extracts clumped litter waste material from litter material contained therein during use includes a chamber adapted to contain a quantity of litter material. The chamber is rotatable about a centrally disposed axis. A rake is disposed within the chamber. The rake is rotatable about an axis which is spaced apart from the chamber axis. A drive assembly is provided for simultaneously rotating the chamber about the chamber axis and for rotating the rake about the rake axis. The rake sweeps through the litter material while clumped litter waste material is directed toward the rake by rotation of the chamber to thereby separate clumped litter waste material from the litter material in the chamber, collect the separated clumped litter material in the rake and extract the separated clumped litter material from the chamber.

Claims (7)

1. A self-cleaning cat litter apparatus that separates and extracts clumped litter waste material from litter material contained therein during use, comprising:

a chamber adapted to contain a quantity of litter material;

said chamber being rotatable about a centrally disposed vertical axis;

a rake disposed within said chamber, said rake including a plurality of tines for receiving clumped litter waste material from the litter material and for extracting the received clumped litter waste material from said chamber, said rake being rotatable about a vertical axis, said rake vertical axis being spaced apart from and parallel to said chamber vertical axis; and

a drive assembly simultaneously rotating said chamber about said chamber vertical axis and rotating said rake tines through the litter material while said rake is disposed in said chamber about said rake vertical axis, such that said rake sweeps within said chamber and through the litter material while said chamber rotates, such that clumped litter waste material is directed toward said rake by rotation of said chamber to thereby separate clumped litter waste material from litter material in said chamber, collect the separated clumped litter material and extract the separated collected clumped litter waste material from said chamber.

2. The self-cleaning litter apparatus of claim 1 wherein said rake rotates in a direction about the rake vertical axis and the chamber rotates in a direction about the chamber vertical axis, such that both said rake and said chamber rotate in the same direction.

3. The self-cleaning litter apparatus of claim 1 wherein said chamber rotates at a speed and said rake rotates at a speed, wherein said speed of said chamber is greater than said speed of said rake.
