Abstract

The invention provides an improved rotating seal apparatus including a plurality of concentrically spaced annular rotating seals. The invention also provides a rotating seal apparatus including a pressurized annular chamber surrounding an annular rotating seal.

Claims (15)

1 - 72 . (canceled)

73 . A cell processing apparatus comprising: a processing module including a centrifuge rotor adapted to a central hub having one or more fluid pathways, the processing module having one or more fluid containers, the containers having a flexible chamber comprising a first side and a second side, each side having a circumferential integral annular seal extending into the container lumen, the seal engaged to a grove in the central hub.

74 . The cell processing apparatus of claim 73 , wherein each side of the fluid containers has a plurality of circumferential integral annular seals.

75 . The cell processing apparatus of claim 73 , wherein the seal between the container sides and the central hub retains the container over the central hub during centrifugation of the container.

76 . A treated cell population comprising: a population of hematopoetic cells having enzymatically converted blood serotypes, the hematopoetic cells enzymatically converted by using a cell processing system comprising,

i. a supply module having a fluid distribution module and a plurality of supply containers;

ii. a cell module;

iii. a processing module including one or more fluid containers connected to the fluid distribution module by a set of conduits, the containers having a flexible chamber comprising a first side and a second side, each side having a circumferential integral annular seal extending into the container lumen;

iv. a control module;

v. a plurality of conduits connecting the supply module to the processing module, and the cell module to the processing module;

vi. a plurality of valves all adapted to the control module and individually adapted to either the supply module, the cell module or the processing module, the operation of the valves being regulatable by the control module; and

vii. a plurality of sensors all adapted to the control module and individually adapted to either the supply module, the processing module or the cell module, the cell module sensor comprising a weight sensor;

wherein the system is environmentally closed and provides for sterile enzymatic conversion of the hematopoetic cells.

77 . The treated cell population of claim 76 , wherein the cell population is substantially enriched for erythrocytes.

78 . The treated cell population of claim 77 , wherein the cell population is substantially depleted of leukocytes.
