Abstract

An organic electroluminescent device including at least one organic layer between a pair of electrodes, wherein the at least one organic layer includes a luminescent layer, at least one layer of the at least one organic layer includes at least one metal complex containing a tri- or higher-dentate ligand, and a compound represented by formula (I) is contained in an organic layer containing the metal complex and/or in other organic layer(s). In formula (I), R 11 to R 14 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent group, and at least one of R 11 to R 14 represents an aryl or heteroaryl group.

Claims (14)

1. An organic electroluminescent device comprising at least one organic layer between a pair of electrodes, wherein the at least one organic layer includes a luminescent layer, at least one layer of the at least one organic layer includes at least one metal complex containing a quadridentate ligand, and a compound represented by formula (I-A) or (I-B) is contained in an organic layer containing the metal complex and/or in other organic layer(s):

wherein in formula (I-A), R 21 to R 24 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent group; and Ar 21 represents an arylene or heteroarylene group,

wherein in formula (I-B), R 31 to R 36 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent group, wherein at least one of R 31 and R 32 is an aryl or heteroaryl group;

and wherein the metal complex is a compound represented by formula (3-B):

wherein, in formula (3-B), M 71 represents a platinum ion; Y 71 represents a substituted or unsubstituted methylene group; Y 72 and Y 73 each independently represents a single bond; L 75 represents a moiety coordinating to M 71 ; n 71 is 0; Z 71 , Z 72 , Z 73 , Z 74 , Z 75 , and Z 76 each independently represent a nitrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted carbon atom; Z 71 and Z 72 may be bonded to each other via a connecting group to form a ring; Z 72 and Z 73 may be bonded to each other via a connecting group to form a ring; Z 73 and Z 74 may be bonded to each other via a connecting group to form a ring; Z 74 and Z 75 may be bonded to each other via a connecting group to form a ring; Z 75 and Z 76 may be bonded to each other via a connecting group to form a ring; R 71 , R 72 , R 73 and R 74 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent; R 71 and R 72 may be bonded to each other to form a ring; and R 73 and R 74 may be bonded to each other to form a ring.

2. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 1 , wherein the compound represented by formula (I-A) is contained in the organic layer containing the metal complex and/or in other organic layer(s).

3. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 1 , wherein R 21 to R 24 each independently represent a phenyl, benzimidazolyl, imidazopyridyl, siloxy, or vinyl group.

4. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 1 , wherein Ar 21 represents a phenylene, biphenylene, or pyridylene group.

5. The organic electroluminescent device of, claim 1 wherein the compound represented by Formula (I-B) is contained in the organic layer containing the metal complex and/or in other organic layer(s).

6. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 1 , wherein R 31 to R 36 each independently represent a phenyl, benzimidazolyl, imidazopyridyl, siloxy, or vinyl group, wherein at least one of R 31 and R 32 is a phenyl, benzimidazolyl or imidazopyridyl group.

7. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 1 , wherein the compound represented by formula (I-A) or (I-B) is contained in the luminescent layer.

8. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 1 , wherein the metal complex is contained in the luminescent layer.

9. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 1 , wherein the metal complex is a compound represented by formula (3-C):

wherein in formula (3-C), R C1 and R C2 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent; R C3 , R C4 , R C5 , and R C6 each independently represents a substituent; R C3 and R C4 may be bonded to each other to form a ring; R C5 and R C6 may be bonded to each other to form a ring; n C3 and n C6 each independently represents an integer of 0 to 3; n C4 and n C5 each independently represents an integer of 0 to 4; when there are plural R C3 's, R C4 's, R C5 's, or R C6 's, the plural R C3 's, R C4 's, R C5 's, or R C6 's may be the same as each other or different from each other, and may be bonded to each other to form a ring.
