Inkjet printhead assembly with an ink storage and distribution assembly
View Patent ↗A printhead assembly includes an ink storage and distribution assembly connectable to an ink supply. An elongate printhead integrated circuit is mounted on the ink storage and distribution assembly to receive ink therefrom. A housing is positioned on the ink storage and distribution assembly. A pair of busbars is mounted on the housing. A tape automated bonding strip is connected between each busbar and the printhead integrated circuit to provide power and control signals to the printhead integrated circuit.
1. A printhead assembly which comprises
an ink storage and distribution assembly connectable to an ink supply;
an elongate printhead integrated circuit mounted on the ink storage and distribution assembly to receive ink therefrom;
a housing positioned on the ink storage and distribution assembly;
a pair of busbars mounted on the housing; and
a tape automated bonding strip connected between each busbar and the printhead integrated circuit to provide power and control signals to the printhead integrated circuit.
2. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 1 , in which the ink storage and distribution assembly includes an ink distribution structure and an ink storage structure mounted on the ink distribution structure, the ink storage structure including a number of longitudinally extending ink storage chambers, covered by the housing, and the ink distribution structure including a number of rows of ink ducts, each row interposed between a respective ink storage chamber and a mounting formation for the printhead integrated circuit defined by the ink distribution structure to feed ink into the printhead integrated circuit.
3. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 2 , in which a series of baffles are positioned in each ink storage chamber to inhibit excessive movement of ink in the ink storage chambers.
4. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 1 , in which the housing includes a roof and a pair of opposed sidewalls, the busbars being mounted on the roof and the tape automated bonding strip extending over respective sidewalls to engage the printhead integrated circuit.
5. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 4 , in which a plurality of locating protrusions extend from the roof, the tape automated bonding strips and the busbars defining openings that correspond to the locating protrusions so that the bonding strips and the busbars can be located on the roof.
6. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 5 , which includes a cover member which engages the housing and a pair of contacts interposed between the cover member and the housing to bear against the busbars, thereby securing the busbars in position.
7. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 6 , in which each tape automated bonding strip is double-sided, with an outer side having a data/signal bus interconnecting a plurality of external control lines and an inner side having a plurality of connecting lines that connect to the printhead integrated circuit.
