Modular printhead assembly with opposed sets of serially arranged printhead modules
View Patent ↗A modular printhead assembly includes a chassis. A pair of feed rollers is mounted on the chassis to feed print media along a feed path. A pair of printhead module sets is mounted on the chassis and positioned on respective sides of the feed path and adjacent the feed rollers. Each set includes a plurality of serially arranged printhead modules oriented to print on both sides of the print media.
1. A modular printhead assembly that comprises
a chassis;
a pair of feed rollers mounted on the chassis to feed print media along a feed path; and
a pair of printhead module sets mounted on the chassis and positioned on respective sides of the feed path and adjacent the feed rollers, each set including a plurality of serially arranged printhead modules oriented to print on different sides of the print media;
wherein a printhead module of each set closest to the feed rollers is shaped and positioned so that a distance between the printhead integrated circuits of those printhead modules and a point of contact of the feed rollers with the print media is less than a radius of the feed rollers.
2. A modular printhead assembly as claimed in claim 1 , in which a plurality of ink reservoirs are arranged on the chassis for supplying respective printhead modules with ink.
3. A modular printhead assembly as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each printhead module includes a number of printhead integrated circuits for printing on the print media and defines a plurality of supply channels in which respective types of ink can be supplied to the printhead integrated circuits.
4. A modular printhead assembly as claimed in claim 1 , in which the printhead modules of each set include substantially identical moldings, the printhead integrated circuits being mounted on the moldings.
5. A modular printhead assembly as claimed in claim 4 , in which the printhead moldings of the sets are shaped so that the sets mirror each other on opposite sides of the feed path.
6. A modular printhead assembly as claimed in claim 4 , in which each molding has a generally arcuate profile to correspond with surfaces of the rollers.
