View Patent ↗Novel surfactant protein C esters suitable for preparing pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of infant respiratory distress syndrome and adult respiratory distress syndrome are described.
1. A method of treating a disorder selected from the group consisting of pneumonia, bronchitis, meconim aspiration syndrome, cystic fibrosis, Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome (IRDS) and Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) in a patient, comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a surfactant protein C (SP-C) having the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 3 of the formula I

in which A is absent or Phe, B is Phe or Trp and C is Ile, Leu or Ser,
wherein the amino acid at the carboxy terminus of the surfactant protein is esterified with an alcohol having 1–4 carbon atoms, and
wherein the esterified surfactant protein C is isolated and purified,
or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof.
