Abstract

A battery capable of inhibiting temperature increase and an anode used for it are provided. An anode active material layer contains an anode active material and a polymer containing a binder, vinylidene fluoride, as a component. A calorific value by differential scanning calorimetry in charging the anode active material layer is 500 J/g or less in the range from 230 deg C. to 370 deg C., and is preferably 400 J/g or less. Further, a difference between the maximum value of calorific value and a calorific value at 100 deg C. is 1.70 W/g or less, and is preferably 1.60 W/g or less.

Claims (19)

1. An anode for use in a battery comprising an anode current collector and an anode active material layer provided on the anode current collector,

wherein the anode active material layer includes an anode active material and a polymer containing vinylidene fluoride as a component, wherein the anode active material is a carbon material,

wherein a calorific value at temperatures from about 230° C. to about 370° C. by differential scanning calorimetry when the anode active material layer is in a state of being charged is 500 J/g or less,

wherein a calorific difference between the calorific value at a maximum value and at about 100° C. when the anode active material is in a state of being charged to 4.2 V ranges from 1.3 W/g to 1.7 W/g,

wherein the calorific value is measured for a reaction between lithium inserted in the anode and fluorine, and

wherein the calorific difference is determined before the anode active material has been discharged.

2. The anode according to claim 1 , wherein the calorific value at temperatures from about 230° C. to about 370° C. by differential scanning calorimetry when the anode active material layer is in a state of being charged is not less than 300 J/g.

3. The anode according to claim 1 , wherein the calorific difference ranges from 1.3 W/g to 1.6 W/g.

4. A battery comprising:

a cathode; an anode; and

an electrolyte,

wherein the anode has an anode current collector and an anode active material layer provided on the anode current collector,

the anode active material layer includes an anode active material and a polymer containing vinylidene fluoride as a component, wherein the anode active material is a carbon material,

wherein a calorific value at temperatures from about 230° C. to about 370° C. by differential scanning calorimetry when the anode active material layer is in a state of being charged is 500 J/g or less,

wherein a calorific difference between the calorific value at a maximum value and at about 100° C. when the anode active material is in a state of being charged to 4.2 V ranges from 1.3 W/g to 1.7 W/g, wherein the calorific value is measured for a reaction between lithium inserted in the anode and fluorine, and

wherein the calorific difference is determined before the anode active material has been discharged.

5. The battery according to claim 4 , wherein the calorific value at temperatures from about 230° C. to about 370° C. by differential scanning calorimetry when the anode active material layer is in a state of being charged is not less than 300 J/g.

6. The battery according to claim 4 , wherein the calorific difference ranges from 1.3 W/g to 1.6 W/g.

7. The battery according to claim 4 , wherein the electrolyte is in a gelatinous state.
