Abstract

A call control system for controlling testing in a mobile switching center (MSC) comprises an interface and a processing system. The interface is configured to receive a test call from a test device to a tone card internal to the MSC. The processing system is configured to determine a primary route for routing the test call to the tone card for a first duration, generate first routing instructions indicating the primary route, after the first duration determine a secondary route for routing the test call to the tone card during a second duration, and generate second routing instructions indicating the secondary route.

Claims (22)

1. A call control system for controlling testing in a mobile switching center (MSC) and maintaining at least a single test call to the MSC for a duration of time, the call control system comprising:

an interface configured to receive the single test call from a test device to a tone card internal to the MSC; and

a processing system configured to determine a primary route for routing the single test call to the tone card during a first portion of the duration of time, and generate first routing instructions indicating the primary route;

the processing system further configured to, after the first portion, determine a secondary route for routing the single test call to the tone card during a second portion of the duration of time, and generate second routing instructions indicating the secondary route.

2. The call control system of claim 1 wherein the interface is configured to transfer the first routing instructions and the second routing instructions to a routing system internal to the MSC.

3. The call control system of claim 1 wherein the interface is configured to receive the single test call from a first base station in communication with the test device and wherein the processing system is configured to handoff the single test call from the first base station to a second base station during the single test call.

4. The call control system of claim 1 wherein the single test call is connected to the interface over an incoming first leg and wherein the single test call remains connected to the interface over the incoming first leg during the first portion and the second portion.

5. The call control system of claim 1 wherein the tone card is configured to provide tone to the test device during the single test call.

6. The call control system of claim 1 wherein the processing system is configured to determine the secondary route in response to the end of the first portion.

7. A method of operating a call control system for controlling testing in a mobile switching center (MSC) and maintaining at least a single test call to the MSC for a duration of time, the method comprising:

receiving the single test call from a test device to a tone card internal to the MSC;

determining a primary route for routing the single test call to the tone card during a first portion of the duration of time;

generating first routing instructions indicating the primary route;

after the first portion, determining a secondary route for routing the single test call to the tone card during a second portion of the duration of time; and

generating second routing instructions indicating the secondary route.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising transferring the first routing instructions and the second routing instructions to a routing system internal to the MSC.

9. The method of claim 7 comprising receiving the single test call from a first base station in communication with the test device and handing off the single test call from the first base station to a second base station during the single test call.

10. The method of claim 7 wherein the single test call is connected over an incoming first leg and wherein the single test call remains connected over the incoming first leg during the first portion and the second portion.

11. The method of claim 7 further comprising the tone card providing tone to the test device during the single test call.

12. The method of claim 7 comprising determining the secondary route in response to the end of the first portion.

13. A storage medium readable by a processing system, having instructions stored thereon to maintain a single test call to a mobile switching center (MSC) for a duration of time, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processing system, direct a call control system in the MSC to:

receive the single test call from a test device to a tone card internal to the MSC, process the single test call to determine a primary route for routing the single test call to the tone card during a first portion of the duration of time, generate first routing instructions indicating the primary route, after the first portion determine a secondary route for routing the single test call to the tone card during a second portion of the duration of time, and generate second routing instructions indicating the secondary route.
