Abstract

An article comprising an adhesive, a stretch member and a substrate wherein the adhesive is used to attach the stretch member to the fabric in a folded hem arrangement. The adhesive can be a tape made from an aqueous polyurethane dispersion and the stretch member can be a spandex fiber.

Claims (27)

1 - 12 . (canceled)

13 . A fabric article, comprising:

a hem arrangement formed at at least one edge of said fabric article, wherein at least one stretch member is attached to a surface of the fabric article near the at least one edge with an adhesive, and the at least one edge of said fabric article is folded to contact at least a portion of said adhesive.

14 . The fabric article of claim 13 , wherein the at least one edge of said fabric article is folded to cover said at least one stretch member and adhesive.

15 . The fabric article of claim 13 , wherein the at least one edge of said fabric article is folded to contact said at least one stretch member.

16 . The fabric article of claim 13 , wherein the at least one stretch member is selected from the group consisting of: spandex yarn, spandex tape, rubber yarn, rubber tape, woven elastic strip and knitted elastic strip.

17 . The fabric article of claim 13 , wherein the at least one stretch member comprises a combination of two or more stretch members aligned side-by-side.

18 . The fabric article of claim 13 , wherein the adhesive is selected from the group consisting of: aqueous polyurethane dispersions, film or tape of an aqueous polyurethane dispersion, and heat-activated spandex-containing adhesives.

19 . The fabric article of claim 13 , wherein the fabric article comprises a garment.

20 . The fabric article of claim 19 , wherein the garment is selected from the group consisting of: intimate apparel, underwear, brassieres, shapewear and swimwear.

21 . A method of forming a hem arrangement at a fabric edge of a fabric, comprising:

aligning at least one stretch member with a strip, tape or film of adhesive to form a stretch member-adhesive composite;

bonding the stretch member-adhesive composite to a surface of the fabric at or near at least one edge of said fabric; and

folding the fabric so that the at least one edge contacts at least a portion of the stretch member-adhesive composite to form the hem arrangement.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the stretch member-adhesive composite is arranged onto the surface of the fabric at or near the at least one edge of said fabric before it is bonded to the surface of the fabric.

23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the stretch member-adhesive composite and the at least one edge of the fabric are bonded to the surface of the fabric.

24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein bonding is by applying heat to cure the adhesive in the stretch member-adhesive composite.

25 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the at least one stretch member is selected from the group consisting of: spandex yarn spandex tape, rubber yarn, rubber tape, woven elastic strip and knitted elastic strip.

26 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the adhesive is selected from the group consisting of: aqueous polyurethane dispersions, film or tape of an aqueous polyurethane dispersion, and heat-activated spandex-containing adhesives.

27 . A method of forming a hem arrangement at a fabric edge of a fabric, comprising:

aligning a strip, tape or film of adhesive at or near at least one edge of said fabric;

aligning at least one stretch member at or near the at least one edge of said fabric and in contact with the adhesive;

folding the fabric so that the at least one edge contacts at least a portion of the adhesive; and

bonding the at least one stretch member and the at least one edge of the fabric to the surface of the fabric at or near at least one edge of said fabric to form the hem arrangement.

28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein bonding is by applying heat to cure the adhesive.

29 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the at least one stretch member is selected from the group consisting of: spandex yarn, spandex tape, rubber yarn, rubber tape, woven elastic strip and knitted elastic strip.

30 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the adhesive is selected from the group consisting of: aqueous polyurethane dispersions, film or tape of an aqueous polyurethane dispersion, and heat-activated spandex-containing adhesives.
