Abstract

One embodiment of a method for translating a message can be broadly summarized by the following steps: generating an electronic message in an understood language of an originating party; receiving instructions to translate contents of the electronic message to another language; converting the electronic message to the another language in accordance with the instructions; and delivering the converted electronic message to the receiving party. Other methods and devices are also provided.

Claims (44)

1. A method of translating a message, comprising:

generating an electronic message in an understood language of an originating party;

receiving instructions to translate contents of the electronic message to another language;

prompting a receiving party to select the another language;

converting the electronic message to the another language in accordance with the instructions; and

delivering the converted electronic message to the receiving party.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic message comprises a voice recording that is delivered to a mailbox of the receiving party.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

prompting the receiving party to select whether to translate the voice recording to another spoken language.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

prompting the receiving party to select a type of voice to be used in translating the voice recording.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

prompting the originating party to select a language for presenting a voice response interface; and

determining a spoken language of the originating party based upon the selected language for the voice response interface.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining the understood language of the receiving party based upon pre-defined preferences of the receiving party.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein instructions are received from the originating party.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein instructions are received from the receiving party.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing the receiving party an opportunity to review the converted electronic message; and

prompting the receiving party to provide confirmation of a valid translation.

10. A computer readable medium having a computer program for translating a message, the program having instructions for performing:

generating an electronic message in an understood language of an originating party;

receiving instructions to translate contents of the electronic message to another language;

prompting a receiving party to select the another language;

converting the electronic message to the another language in accordance with the instructions; and

delivering the converted electronic message to the receiving party.

11. The computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the electronic message comprises a voice recording that is delivered to a mailbox of the receiving party.

12. The computer readable medium of claim 11 , the program further performing:

prompting the receiving party to select whether to translate the voice recording to another spoken language.

13. The computer readable medium of claim 12 , the program further performing:

prompting the receiving party to select a type of voice to be used in translating the voice recording.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 10 , the program further performing:

prompting the originating party to select a language for presenting a voice response interface; and

determining the understood language of the originating party based upon the selected language for the voice response interface.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 10 , the program further performing:

determining the understood language of the receiving party based upon pre-defined preferences of the receiving party.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein instructions are received from the originating party.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein instructions are received from the receiving party.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 10 , the program further performing:

providing the receiving party an opportunity to review the converted electronic message; and

prompting the receiving party to provide confirmation of a valid translation.

19. The method of claim 1 , wherein a translation server computer converts the electronic message to the another language in accordance with the instructions.

20. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving party is prompted to select the another language before the electronic message is generated.
