Abstract

A method of determining an analyte concentration in a patient. The method comprises estimating an analyte concentration for display on a point-of-care monitor, where the estimating includes obtaining two or more measurements of the analyte concentration. Also disclosed is a device for determining an analyte concentration. The device comprises a sensor configured to measure a bodily fluid of a patient and provide information for display on a point-of-care monitor. The information relates to a measurement of an analyte in a sample. The device further comprises a processor and stored program instructions executable by the processor such that the system is operable to estimate an analyte concentration using two or more measurements of the analyte concentration.

Claims (22)

1 . A method of determining an analyte concentration in a patient comprising:

estimating an analyte concentration for display on a point-of-care monitor, where said estimating includes obtaining two or more measurements of said analyte concentration.

2 . The method of claim 1 , where said obtaining two or more measurements obtains measurements on one bodily fluid sample of said patient.

3 . The method of claim 1 , where said obtaining two or more measurements obtains measurements on sequentially obtained bodily fluid samples of said patient.

4 . The method of claim 1 , where said estimating includes a mathematical analysis of said two or more measurements.

5 . The method of claim 4 , where said mathematical analysis includes a statistical model of temporal variations in the measurement.

6 . The method of claim 4 , where said mathematical analysis includes an outlier analysis.

7 . The method of claim 4 , where said mathematical analysis includes an estimation weighted average.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying the estimated analyte concentration.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a trend of the obtained measurements.

10 . The method of claim 1 , where said analyte concentration is determined using a spectroscopic analyzer.

11 . The method of claim 10 , where said spectroscopic analyzer is an infrared spectrometer.

12 . A device for determining an analyte concentration comprising:

a sensor configured to measure a bodily fluid of a patient and provide information for display on a point-of-care monitor, said information relating to a measurement of an analyte in a sample;

a processor; and

stored program instructions executable by said processor such that said system estimates an analyte concentration using two or more measurements of said analyte concentration.

13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein said sensor includes a spectroscopic analyzer.

14 . The device of claim 13 , wherein said spectroscopic analyzer includes an infrared spectrometer.

15 . The device of claim 12 , where said two or more measurements are obtained on one bodily fluid sample of said patient.

16 . The device of claim 12 , where said two or more measurements are obtained on sequentially obtained bodily fluid samples of said patient.

17 . The device of claim 12 , further comprising a display, where said display presents the estimate of said two or more measurements.

18 . The device of claim 12 , further comprising a display, where said display presents a trend in said two or more measurements.
