Solenoid operated fluid control valve
View Patent ↗Solenoid operated fluid control valve for controlling the pressure of a fluid in a fluid control system comprises a solenoid housing having therein a solenoid coil, an armature movable in response to electrical current applied to the solenoid coil, a valve member for controlling fluid flow to a fluid passage, an actuator pin disposed between the armature and the valve member for moving the valve member in response to armature movement, and one or more features including an armature damping member, tubular actuator pin support body, flow diverter, coil bobbin support sleeve, and/or internal particle gettering magnet to improve valve operation.
1. Solenoid operated fluid control valve, comprising a solenoid coil, an armature movable in response to electrical current applied to the solenoid coil, a valve member for controlling fluid flow from a valve seat orifice to a fluid passage, an actuator pin disposed between the armature and the valve member for moving the valve member in response to armature movement, and a flow diverter disposed downstream of the valve seat orifice, said flow diverter having a flow diverting side against which fluid impinges and one or more flow channels that communicate the valve seat orifice and a downstream exhaust orifice, wherein said flow diverter supports an end region of the actuator pin adjacent the valve member and wherein an opposite end region of the actuator pin is supported proximate the armature by a bearing sleeve of an actuator pin support body that forms a damping chamber in which an inner end of the armature resides.
2. The fluid control valve of claim 1 wherein the bearing sleeve comprises a tubular sleeve of the actuator pin support body.
3. The fluid control valve of claim 2 wherein the inner end of the armature is supported in the damping chamber only by hydrodynamic fluid pressure to reduce hysteresis losses in operation of the fluid control valve.
4. The fluid control valve of claim 1 wherein the flow diverter comprises a hub through which the end region of the actuator pin extends.
5. The fluid control valve of claim 1 wherein the flow diverter comprises at least one locating post received in a pocket of a valve housing.
6. The fluid control valve of claim 1 wherein the flow diverter comprises a plurality of fluid flow channels communicated to the exhaust orifice.
7. The fluid control valve of claim 1 further including a permanent magnet disposed about an outer armature end.
8. Solenoid operated fluid control valve, comprising a solenoid coil, an armature movable in response to electrical current applied to the solenoid coil, a valve member for controlling fluid flow from a valve seat orifice to a fluid passage, an actuator pin disposed between the armature and the valve member for moving the valve member in response to armature movement, and a flow diverter disposed in the fluid passage downstream of the valve seat orifice, said flow diverter having a flow diverting side against which fluid impinges and having a hub through which an end region of the actuator pin extends and a plurality of arms extending from the hub and spaced apart at the hub periphery to form a plurality of flow channels that communicate the valve seat orifice and a downstream exhaust orifice wherein the flow diverter is positioned in the fluid passage by posts extending from the hub being received in respective recessed pockets in a valve housing, wherein said flow diverter supports an end region of the actuator pin adjacent the valve member and wherein an opposite end region of the actuator pin is supported proximate the armature by a bearing sleeve of an actuator pin support body that forms a damping chamber in which an inner end of the armature resides.
